Jacob watched the vampire in front of him in curiosity, and slight anger. How dare she just barge into Bella's house, screaming. His eyes trailed from her legs up to her face as she continued yelling, then.... He met her eyes.
The caramel color seemed to melt him, a beautiful shade that reminds him of pure gold itself.
In that moment, all of his most meaningful things in life- his pack, his family, Bella- all seemed to disappear, like a balloon floating away. Now, the only thing keeping him on earth was her.
'So this is imprinting' He thought to himself. Images flashed in his mind- Dancing with her, going on dates and eventually a vision of them getting married.
He was jarred from these visions as she stormed up to him, throwing a punch at him. His head snapped to the side from the force, and he looked at her in shock
"So you're the reason my brother might die" she hissed "All because of some girl, really?"
Jacob was stunned, unable to speak. He just stared at the woman in front of him
Her hair was raven black and hung in loose curls down to her waist, only highlighted by her pale skin. She was tall, around 5'8, but was still tiny compared to Jacob. Her eyes held a special hatred, despite her clearly knowing that were mates. He could tell by the hesitance she had before hitting him
"Not my fault that bloodsucker didn't know whose funeral it was" he replied without thinking. Guilt flooded him at the expression on her face, knowing he had hurt something she cared about, even if it was a vampire
He could tell the similarities between her and Edward. They both had the same high cheekbones and dark hair, except this girl had a softer face, more inviting.
The girl stared at him with pure hatred, before turning on her heel and beginning to leave the house. All Jacob wanted was to go after her, to apologize and try to make things right. But he left her walk off, still frozen in place.
"I'm going to book a flight for the three of us. We've got to stop him from whatever stupid idea he has in his blockhead." And with that she was gone, slamming the door behind her.
***********
Jacob storms onto Bella's room behind her as she begins packing a bag "He left you, Bella. He didn't want you anymore, remember?"
"But I still love him" Bella insisted "and I'm not gonna let him kill himself out of guilt."
This clearly upset Jacob, and Bella could see it on his face. But she can't stop to soothe him. She moves away from him and continues packing.
"What about your dad, huh?" He asked, crossing his arms with a serious look.
Bella shook her head "I'm eighteen, legally free to go. I'll leave a note."Alice entered the room, a phone to her ear.
"Delphine got the airline tickets, we leave in half an hour" she told Bella. Jacob looks up as he heard the name of his imprint for the first time, but the shock quickly faded into anger.
"You Cullens might hunt animals but those monsters in Italy don't." Jacob told Alice, getting closer to her in an attempt to intimidate her.
"I'm well aware of what the Volturi are." Alice said, rolling her eyes.
"Then why are you taking Bella to them like a bottle of wine to a party?" He demands
"Right, she's better off here with Victoria stalking her." She told him sarcastically "The one you dogs can't seem to catch?"Jacob growls, a shudder ripping through him. Bella intercedes, stopping him from shifting by grabbing Alice.
"Let's go" Bella told her
Alice ran to the car, getting into the passenger seat. Before Bella could get into the backseat, Jacob catches her arm, not hostile though, just pleading.
"Please, Bella" he begged "Stay here. For Charlie... for me."Bella sees the love in his eyes; this could be the last time she ever sees him. She hugs him, then pulls away. Jacob glanced at Delphine from the spot in the driver's side, seeing her clench the wheel tightly.
"Bye, Jacob." She tells him softly. He watches, agonized as she races to the car, climbs in... The car sped off and disappeared into the distance, carrying the girl he thought he loved, and the girl the universe said he was destined to be with.
********
Delphine drove off angrily, the steering wheel on the verge of breaking under her tight grip. Alice placed a hand on hers, making the girl loosen her hold"It'll be ok. Well come back and you can talk to him, figure this out" Alice whispered, in a tone too quiet to hear.
Delphine glanced out the rearview mirror, making eye contact with Jacob as she drove, further away despite all of her instincts.
