Ron's pov
I stepped down the stairs of the Burrow with a smile etched on my face that I was not able to rub off. I felt the box in my right fist poke through my fingers, showing off the deep red hues. There was nothing that could stop me tonight.
"Ronald!" Ok, maybe that could stop me, I turned to face the kitchen and a smiling mum. Though smiling might not have been the right term, she had a mixture of joy and... sadness, I supposed on her face.
"Yes?"
Her hands were on her hips as she looked me up and down with a frown, "Where are you headed off to?"
"A date..." I regretted speaking the words as they escaped my lips as mum lunged forward.
"Hermione?"
I nodded with scarlet running up my face and already pink ears, I wish I had one of George's blush-beater candies on me right now.
"Wonderful, where?"
"Where? Where what?"
"Where are you taking her?!" Mum questioned hyper energetically.
I hesitated, not wanting to be judged. Though I had finally gotten a job as an auror, -not that I truly loved it- and was making enough, I was still under my parents' -that is mum's- control. Everything I said had a limit till I moved out, unfortunately I still hadn't. I was the last child left in this house, even Ginny had left once she was 20 after she married Harry. Now I was sitting at home at the ripe age of 22, unmarried unlike every sibling I had.
After careful consideration I took in a breath and told her where we were planning to go, "The little place in Ottery St. Catchpole. You know, the one you went with dad to a year back."
Her eyes lit up and her smile widened, "The little one that looks like it is from the 70s? With all the wood and velvet upholstery? Oh! It's a wonderful place for dinner."
Nodding, I spoke, "Yeah, that's the one. She said she'll meet me there."
"Well don't make her wait!" Mum exclaimed, pushing me to the door, "GO!"
"Let me grab my jacket first, mum! It's September for Merlin's sake!" I manage to speak between laughing at my mum's childish behaviour.
"Right, sorry Ron."
She backs away as I grab my newly acquired navy blue jacket and placed the box inside a pocket, careful to hide it from my mum's eyes.
"I'll be back mum!" I call out to her as I exited the door, her now in the kitchen with a mug of steaming tea, "I'll be back hopefully with your newest daughter-in-law to-be!"
I walk out the door as fast as my feet would carry me and apparate to an alley near the restaurant 'Cindy's Delight'. Though now that I thought more about it and truly saw it in person, it was more of a muggle pub.
"Ron!" This time the voice that called out to me was sweeter, not saying that mum's voice is not sweet! But this voice made me go back to that day on the Hogwarts Express when I first heard her voice and it brought me joy every day.
"Mione." I gasped, my eyes wide at her and jaw dropped. She was wearing a deep brown dress that was specked with gold and with what looked like embroidered golden doves. It hugged her waist and looked stunning on her. The top half of her was covered in a little, puffed red jacket with a her hair cascading down her shoulders.
"Hello Ron." She greets me with a beam that I mimic on my own lips, "Am I overdressed?"
I stand there confused for a moment before realising that I was in a pair of black jeans and my white button down was hidden by my boring blue jacket. Not the picture of a formal evening compared to her attire.
