Ollie was a year older than me, half a head taller than me, had beautiful sand colored hair and looked like a boy who had mischief in his mind all the time. He was sitting by the pier when I arrived at the beach with a friend of mine. She had wanted to go fishing but I never cared for such a sport so I suggested swimming on the landline phone, there were no mobile phones back then yet. We had our bathingsuits under our clothes so we did not have to get changed and he kept an eye on us all this time.

I remember walking up the pier and getting ready to jump in, I turned my face to look up to him and he smiled at me. His eyes threw a tempting look at me and I blushed up to my ears. Friend of mine was playing and having fun while I was trying to look less like a child, more like a young adult. Something I had seen at that disco you know.
My friend got bored pretty fast and she took off to the kiosk that the camping ground had with the offices and some other public facilities (kitchen, showers, laundry room and such). She wanted to buy some icecream, but my mum never had extra cash so I was without money and refused to go up.
"What's the point when I can't buy anything?" I asked her and she shrugged her shoulders, took her bike and left me down the hill at the beach wrapped in my towel.

I watched her walk her bike up the hill and then turn around to my bag but I found the boy standing behind me. He stood so close that I felt his warm breath on my cheeks, peppermint chewing gum. It burnt my eyes slightly and I felt the water fill them up, so he lifts his hand puts it on my cheek and says
"I can't stand it when pretty girls cry." I shake my head and point at this mouth,
"Peppermint is my favorite." I say clumsily and he laughs, wholeheartedly.
"Come see me tomorrow. Alone." He says and looks behind me before departing.
"What time?"
"We're here for the whole month." He shrugs his shoulders as he walks away and my friend appears next to me with an icecream in her hand.
"Who is that?"
"I have no idea." I answer her quietly and watch him vanish behind the sauna building.

Well of course I went to see him! However I had to make it look like I was going to see my friend 'cause I really didn't want to explain to my mum that I was going out to see a boy.

It was a hot summer day, in the morning it was already above 20 celsius and I remember having this feeling that I have to wash my hair. Our shower was at the side of the house, where the sauna was located and it was always cold there. It was freezing even in the middle of the hottest summer season! I still don't understand how it was possible.
I had a shower, made sure I washed my hair. It is highly possible I accidentally washed it twice.
I walked upstairs to my room, opened my wardrobe and browsed through my clothes. It was so hot, I would not be able to wear anything with long sleeves or jeans of any kind. So I pulled on a pair of shorts and I dug up a t-shirt from the small pile of clothes. I never had too much even though mum was a seamstress. I believe there's a saying that goes something like; the shoemaker's children go barefoot? I think we had a little bit the same, we had little but enough.

I put the bathing suit and a towel into my backpack and looked at the time. What time I should be going, he said nothing. I remember touching my cheek where he had put his hand on and I blush from the thought. I have this tingling feeling in my stomach and I have a need to laugh out loud. I had never felt nervous like that before!
I was strolling around the house for like an hour before I decided I could at least step outside, to the porch. The summer humidity hit me like a ton of bricks. It was so heavy to breathe, it was absolutely horrible. I don't remember any other summer with such humidity. Mum was at work and sisters were in daycare, I was to pick them up a little later. I would have time to see the boy.

He was sitting at the same spot as the day before when I arrived at the campingarea. He saw me before I saw him and his smile was wide as I appeared at the beach. I tried to act cool and not nervous so I just sat next to him without a word.
"You came." He says quietly and takes my hand into his.
"I did." I say and we just sit quietly, watching the beach, the people and enjoy the breeze that suddenly appears as I arrive. It was nice.
I met him every day, except for the weekends. Mum didn't work on the weekends and I still did not wish to say I would go and see a boy. I expected a fight or that she would ground me or something.

Me and Ollie hung out, walked around the camping grounds and after two weeks of just talking and spending time together he did it.
We were sitting in an open room, with the best of scenery to the lake. It had some games and things for people who were camping there. It was nice in the evenings with the small fire pit in front. I was sitting on a kitchen counter, facing the lake and breathing in the smell of the forest. Ollie stands next to me and has fallen quiet, just staring at me.
"What is it?" I ask and push the hair out of his eyes as he moves closer. He puts his hand behind my neck and pulls me to him, our faces are right against each other and we stare at each other in the eyes.
"Can I kiss you?" He asks and I nod, clumsily as I lick my lips. I actually remember wondering if I had put on lip balm that morning or not.
He leans closer, presses his lips against mine and I feel his eyelashes on my cheeks. I float into this feeling, being held by a boy and the smell of peppermint.

My first kiss.
