Jonah was a black haired and brown eyed boy. He had an alcoholic father just like me, which was not a surprise in the village we lived in. He was an only child, but he had cousins in every grade of our school.
And we hung out for a full year before he decided to not show any interest anymore. He was not big in kissing, but he held my hand every chance he had. Until that day of course. Not sure what happened, or how it happened either. He just stopped calling and suddenly Nea and Sinea stopped hanging out with me too. The year ended very much as odd as it started.
I was not upset about it to be honest with you, they were all very nice distraction for me. As the summer approached, I was dreaming about going to the beach again and... Well, hoping to see Ollie. But I saw a poster on the noticeboard for a summer camp. I took the flyer and showed it to mum. And got to go.
Mum couldn't really deny a week of freedom from me, I was always babysitting, I was working after school at the local bookstore as an errand girl and I asked very little now I was making little cash for myself. So to a summer camp I went.I forgot to mention the job, didn't I? I walked into the bookstore of our village once after school out of boredom and just looked around all the nice shiny things.
The owner probably took a pity on me and suggested me to do some errands for her, for some pocket money of course as payment. Which was beyond amazing to me obviously! The camp was a week long camp at the local church camp area. It had, or still probably does, the main building with 2 wings of bedrooms, kitchen, bathrooms and a main room that turned into a dining hall during the day and then whatever was needed for the evening. There was a little camp church, sauna, beach and a beach volleyball field. I shared the room with other girls, none from my class had joined me when I asked. I did not expect them to, but I thought I'd suggest it anyhow.
There was a day when me and some girls were playing board games and a few boys joined us at the table. Watching us play and making jokes 'cause we were terrible at it. I think it was a scrabble or something similar.
One of the boys was quite peculiar looking. His head was slightly in the shape of a pear and I found his features curious and his name was Joshua.
There were 3 other boys; Kaden, Valentin and Jack. They were from a smaller school and they were all year younger than me.
The village we all lived in had these smaller sideschools for those who lived further away and they joined the center school as they needed to enter the high school grades.Joshua asked me if I could teach Kaden to play the game. I asked why Kaden did not ask for himself but then I realized that the dark brown haired boy with the deep blue eyes blushed. Oh I see.
I then nodded and pointed the chair next to me,
"You'll need to be next to me so you can see." He stands up and I can see he is wearing worn out clothes and this flannel shirt. Proper countryside clothing even for me.We did not play for long, we ended up just chatting for a long while. His friends vanished one by one somewhere else but Kaden stayed. He was the only child, he lived with his grandma, he did not know his mum and his father was an alcoholic. Big surprise there. And he played guitar.
