Ten days had passed, and Atharva had been working tirelessly in the village, ensuring that all the responsibilities of the government were met. He extended his efforts to all the surrounding villages as well. He left no stone unturned. Today was the day he was supposed to go back home, as he needed to attend to his office and family responsibilities as well.
Kamal Kaki had come to meet him along with some villagers.
"Raja sa, please forgive me for asking you to stay here. I feel guilty, but I am so grateful for everything you have done for us."
Atharva, who was packing his luggage and standing with Ruhi, smiled and replied.
"Don't apologize to me. It was my duty. And besides, you were right when you said we face discrimination. But not this time. As long as I am alive, no villager will face any problems."
Kamal Kaki joined her hands in front of Ruhi and said, "Thank you very much! How will I ever repay your favor? You've taken responsibility for getting my grandson admitted to school and are covering all his expenses."
Ruhi gently held her hands and said, "Please don't embarrass me by folding your hands. I am like your daughter, and everything I did was out of my duty as your daughter."
Atharva smiled, watching the exchange. He then folded his hands in front of the villagers and said, "Forgive me. I promised to stay for 21 days, but I am leaving in 14 days. I have other responsibilities to attend to, but I promise I will take full care of this place."
The villagers refused to let Atharva fold his hands, as he had done so much more for them in these few days than anyone else had.
Atharva and Ruhi exchanged smiles when suddenly a vehicle arrived to pick them up. Ruhi looked back at the villagers and waved goodbye. Rajni and Kamal Kaki came closer to her, and Kamal Kaki whispered in her ear.
"Ruhi beta, take a pregnancy test as soon as you get home. I still think you might be expecting."
Ruhi looked at Atharva, then at them, and nodded. Atharva had a sense of what they were talking about, but he avoided eye contact and focused on loading the luggage into the car.
