Preface

"I don't think this is a very good idea, Rocky."

"You'll be fine, Freckle! Just keep your eyes pealed for Aunt Nina."

"Fine."

"Hey, Rocky! I found something!"

Rocky leaped across the small creek on top of green, mossy rocks, almost slamming into Y/N.

"What'd ya find?" He asked excitedly.

"Let's see... Looks like a diamond ring!"

"Wow!" He quickly snatched it out of her soft and muddy paws.

"We'll be making lots of money with this! I could finally build my experiments room!"

"How do we know it's not fake?" Y/N asked, her eyes fixated on the sparkling object.

"I can ask Aunt Nina. She'll know-"

"We are not asking Aunt Nina, Freckle." Rocky interrupted.

"Why not?"

"If she finds out that we're getting all dirty right before dinner, she'll bake us into a big, flaky pie."

Freckle shivered.

"Well, since you boys can't ask Nina, then I will." Y/N took the ring back, then started up the hill back towards the house.

"Not so fast." Rocky grabbed her arm and held her back.

"What is it?" She asked, rolling her E/C eyes.

"If you tell Nina- she knows you're out here with us already- you'll get us all in trouble."

"What's the worst that could happen?"

"Well one time, I got grounded from going outside for a WEEK. A WHOLE WEEK! Although, I think it was more a punishment for her than for me."

"Just a week? That's nothing! I've gotten grounded from going outside for TWO WHOLE MONTHS once."

"What did you do?"

"I scared my mum with a snake. What did you do to get yourself grounded?" She demanded, crossing her arms.

"I tried covering Freckle with honey- for an experiment- but then the honey ended up getting all over me instead. I got bee stings everywhere. I even have some scars! Wanna see?"

Rocky lifted up his shirt and revealed little red scars all over his stomach.

Y/N winced.

"No big deal though, I can always use 'em to get out of church by telling Aunt Nina I've gotten sick." He chuckled. "She believes it every time!"

"That reminds me of the time I-"

"Guys! We're getting side tracked! I think mum is looking for us!" Freckle exclaimed, his face stricken with fear.

"Quick! Hide!" Rocky cried.

They all split up into different directions and hid in crevices and behind rocks that were scattered around the small creek.

"Boys! It's time for supper! Ya best not be gettin' all dirty right after yer baths!"

"Curses! She's onto us." Rocky whispered.

"I have an idea!"

Y/N swiftly ran out from behind her rock and grabbed Rocky and Freckle as she passed them.

"Where are you taking us?" Freckle asked very nervously.

"To the pond!" Y/N responded cheerfully.

"Why?"

"To make it look like we weren't playing in the creek! Here we are!"

She brushed aside branches and bush leaves to reveal a small, glistening pond.

"Hop on in!" She exclaimed, jumping in.

A few minutes later, Freckle started crying.

"What is it, Freckle?" Y/N asked.

"Something is biting me!"

Rocky and Y/N looked at each other in confusion, then both dove under.

Their eyes went big as they saw black leeches covering Freckle's bright orange legs.

They popped their heads back up, yelling. Then Y/N hoisted Freckle onto her shoulders, and ran as fast as she could out of the water to reveal leeches all over the three of them.

"BOYS!!"

They turned around to see Nina with her hands on her hips and a very angry expression.

"Hi Nina..." Y/N sheepishly waved.

"Yer all in BIG trouble!"
