~ Chapter 46 ~

Grant's POV:

I guide Ellie behind the reception desk, to ask Emily if there's anything Ellie can help with.

"Hey, Emily, have you got a sec?"

"Oh! Hello, you two! Yeah, I think so. A patient of yours is due here soon though, so we'll both have to be speedy!"

"Haha! True, I need to sort my room out, but, anyways, you know Ellie is doing work experience here for the week, is there anything she could help with? She hasn't had the best of mornings, so she's probably a bit tired, but still wants to do some stuff," I sat, rubbing Ellie's back and smiling between her and Emily.

"Of course!! Just bring the chair from over there and you can come and sit up here with me and we can have some fun!"

"Brilliant! Have fun, sweetheart, and I'll come and get you or Tobey or James will if they're free."

Ellie's POV:

I like spending time with Emily, I've done it before, if I've been here after school, but I don't normally do very much; I just talk to her normally.

When Grant goes back to his room, Emily gets up and passes me a laptop from the other side of the curved desk.

"This has got all of the clinic's systems on it, I'll log in with my details and then I'll show you how to use it and maybe you can have a go at signing Grant's next patient in?"

"Oh, okay, I'm going to be slow though..do you not want to sign them in until I get better?" I say, not wanting to make them wait and if they get annoyed it's going to be my fault.

"Don't worry, Ellie, the next patient won't mind, they've been coming here for years," she says, laughing.

"Okay, when are they coming?"

"They should be here in around 3 minutes, her appointment is at 10:35 and we ask for patients to be around 5 minutes earlier, so it's smooth running, Mrs Bell is normally early to her appointments anyways."

I nod.

Learning how to use the system might be quite fun, I want to see what's on here and I can ask Grant all about it later. Being in charge like this has been something that I've thought about; I always like things to be organised and being about to check things off  list throughout a day is satisfying to me. I have also thought about going into psychology, and I suppose you get to do much the same in that job too.

The door to the clinic opens and I assume the lady who walks through is Mrs Bell, I immediately get a little scared as I haven't ever used this before and now I've got to infront of someone else. It'll be fine though, it's only signing someone in.

"Hi, how can I help you, Mrs Bell?" Emily says.

"Hi, I've got an appointment with Dr Collins? At 10:35?"

Emily immediately looks at me and says, "Go to calendar...click Dr Collins...and look for an appointment at 10:35 for Mrs Bell and then confirm what the appointment is for.."

As Emily is talking, I go through the instructions and I get to Mrs Bell's appointment with Grant and I see what it's for, "A routine examination?" I say, looking up at Mrs Bell.

"I believe so!"

"Now, click on the 'i'... and see where it says 'attended'?" I nod, "Click that and then 'confirm'," I do, "Brilliant, you've just told Dr Collins that Mrs Bell is here," Emily turns to Mrs Bell, "Just have a seat, Mrs Bell, Dr Collins will be with you shortly."

Only about a minute later, Grant walks through and calls for Mrs Bell. He comes over to the reception desk and asks me if we have any files for Mrs Bell. I think it's a strange question as I assume the files are on his computer, but I turn to Emily.

"Umm, yes I think we do, just recent medical, yeah?"

"Please, that would be great," he obviously saw my confused look as he then said, "Don't worry, E, I'll explain it to you later."

Emily passes the file to Grant and he and Mrs Bell walk off to his exam room.

"So, we have a little time and then 3 more patients will be coming in close together. Do you want me to show you more of the system?"

"Yeah, that'd be cool."

"Okay, I don't know how much Grant has actually permitted you to see, as he is going to be making you an account for the clinic so later you'll be able to do it yourself. I'll show you your files and things because obviously you can see those."

"I'm getting an account? Why?"

"Just so you can see things on your own and if u come and work he a couple days a week or something it's all set up for you," Emily says, smiling, "When Grant has finished with Mrs Bell and come back through, I'll ask him what he's planning for your account because I assume he's just going to sort it tonight with you at home."

For the next 15/20 minutes or so Emily showed me around certain bits of the system and then started telling me how to book another appointment for a patient just as Grant and Mrs Bell walk through.

"Just another check-up for Mrs Bell in around 5 or 6 months, please!" Grant and Emily look at me.

I try to remember as much as Emily had just told me, so I go back onto the calendar and filter it so it only shows available times for Grant and then look for 5 or 6 months in the future.

"There's time in either September or October, if they work for you?" I say, to Mrs Bell.

"I think mid to late September would be good for me, thank you," She replies, smiling at me.

"Okay, ummm," I turn to Emily, "How do you see the times?"

"Just click on the filter and click date and times and it should be good," She points at the screen, "would a morning or afternoon appointment work best for you, Mrs Bell?"

"Morning or between 1 and 2 would be best."

"10 o'clock on 15th September with Dr Collins?" I say as I find a morning appointment.

"Brilliant, thank you!"

"Have a good day, Mrs Bell," Grant says, as she turns to leave. "All going well, princess?"

"I think so...this isn't too bad!"

"That's good, sweetheart. Has Emily spoken to you about your account?"

"I was actually going to ask you what you were planning on allowing on it?" Emily says as she opens up a notes app on her computer.

"I was planning on the calendar, obviously adding appointments and checking in, but not records or files of any of our patients due to DPA and any other sensitive information but I think everything else can go onto Ellie's account. I'll show her later when I'm creating it so she can get to grips with it and I can show her around and stuff."

"Okay, cool, just making sure I'm allowing her to use everything on my account that she'll be able to access on hers, that's all."

"Yeah, that's good. I better be off, I think I've got another patient coming in in around 10 minutes!"

Emily and I just nod.
