It was already 8, and there was only a few more hours left on shift when we got back to the station. Bobby told me I had the rest of the shift off, so I changed, and headed out of the locker room. I felt a hand wrap around my wrist and I turn to see Chimney holding it.
"Hey, you going to be okay? I know how you can get sometimes after a rough call?"
Chim has seen me through rough times, and he knew how bad it could get. Within the two years of me knowing him and a year and half after telling him about my past, he's already seen me hurting myself 4 times, and get drunk 6. The most recent one being me hurting myself.
"I don't know, but I'll try to be."
I could tell Chim wasn't convinced.
"Well before anything goes bad, you call okay? You make sure you call."
"Sure, Chim. I'll make sure."
We hear the alarm ring as the rest of the team runs down the stairs and sees me and Chim talking.
"Well, I'll get out of way now. Bye Chim."
"Bye Lia!"
He runs off and I yell to him, "Go save some lives!"
He gives me a thumbs up through the ambulance's drive window before driving out.
I head to my car and grab my keys. I knew I couldn't go back to my apartment, so I made my way to the bar.
*
Many drinks later and four hours later, I was still at the bar, and was for sure drunk. I knew I couldn't drive, so I called Chim. The two of us had grown close while working together. Not that me and Hen weren't, but Chim and I could relate more. He was the only one I've told about my past. Mental health, parents, and Hailey. I had crappy parents, he had a crappy dad.
My phone rang two times before he picked up.
"CChimmm, c-can can you come pickkk me up? I-II think I drankk too much."
My words were slurring, and I could barely hold myself up on the bar stool.
"Lia? It's like midnight. Where are you?"
I heard keys jingle through the phone as I stood up from the bar stool. I closed my tab and made my way outside the doors.
"The barrr you idiottt. The, the onee we always go too."
"Just stay inside Lia, I'm coming."
"Tooo, *hiccup* lateeChimm. I'm already outsidee. I'm- I'm waiting for youu."
"Just stay awake Lia. Okay?"
It was windy outside, and I felt myself slam into the side of the building by the entrance. My body slid down and I sat on the pavement.
"Okiee dokeyy. You know, I always wantedd to know how itt felt to be chokedd by a snake."
"Really? Didn't think you'd want to know."
"It, it felt like my dadd again. His hands on myyy neckk, no airr."
There was silence in the phone, and I knew Chim tensed up after hearing me say that.
"Lia, I'm almost there, hang on."
"Chimm, I'm kind of sleepyyy."
"No, you know this. Keep your eyes open, and keep talking. I'm a minute away."
"Yeahhh, I do know thattt. Sooo, find any girllsss?"
"You're funny. I'm here, so I'm going to hang up. Okay?"
