Hmm, what are your thoughts on the boy who didn't acquire any abilities? Sir
It's quite peculiar, but perhaps he possesses a hidden power that even the blue ball couldn't reveal. If it didn't shine brighter, then it must be the power that the devil mentioned. We will witness the truth during this examination, as the old man with the eye patch stated.
Meanwhile
As I remained pressed against the wall, my arms and legs tightly restrained, I felt a sense of terror. The demon's gaze pierced through me, emanating pure evil. I desperately attempted to free myself, struggling against the firm grip that held me in place.
What in the world is this? My arms pinned against the wall, making it difficult to even breathe. My heart raced faster than the speed of light. The demon took a step closer, inching towards me. Panic consumed me as I fought to break free, but my efforts were in vain. Why? Why? I should have chosen the other option, a chance at a new life.
Suddenly, the demon's face drew near, a sinister smile etched upon its lips. It sank its teeth into my shoulder, causing excruciating pain. I screamed in agony, desperately trying to shake the demon off, but it clung onto my flesh.
My screams echoed until the demon raised its hand, still gnawing at my shoulder. It then plunged its hand into my stomach, and I let out another piercing scream. However, something intervened, pushing the demon away with a pulsating force. Thank goodness, they wouldn't let me die, just as the old man had say.
But as the demon was pushed away, it sprinted towards me, sinking its teeth into my shoulder. Ahh, I can't bear this pain for another two hours! Ahh, I screamed in agony as blood poured from my wounded shoulder.
I couldn't help but recall the words of Eric Light, the one who sent me to this world. He warned me that being a hunter would be pure hell. He emphasized the need for mental and physical strength, as I would witness unimaginable things. Demons and devils, he said, were distinct entities. He prepared me for what was to come, but now I question if I still want to be a part of this, Eric, I hate the choice I made.
The demon still had its teeth firmly embedded in me, causing excruciating pain. Suddenly, it released my shoulder and grabbed my neck, squeezing tightly. However, it was forcefully pushed away, preventing it from killing me. But in an instant, it sprinted back towards me, sinking its teeth into my shoulder once again.
Twenty minutes passed, and the demon was pushed away once more. This time, it was pinned against the wall, just like me. A screen descended from the ceiling, presenting me with two options.
The first choice was to endure the pain from the demon attacks, or I could give up and lose my chance to be a demon hunter. But if I choose the second option, I would at least have another life. They would kill me instantly, so I wouldn't feel the pain. I just wanted to escape from this hell, it was too painful for me. I couldn't even see properly. But would I live the same boring life? Would I still have no dreams or goals? My whole life felt like a joke. I decided to be a demon hunter because life was boring, and if this was the only time I could live an exciting life, no matter how painful it was, I would choose the second option.
The screen then turned off. I just had to endure a few more hours, and I would pass this first exam.
After an hour passed, I was still enduring the pain. The demon kept biting my shoulder. What's with this demon and my shoulder.
Two hours passed, and the exam was completed. I looked at the screen and saw that I had passed. I couldn't even tell that two hours had gone by. I guess I did it. As I looked at the screen once more, it said that the test was to assess my mental and physical strength. I let out a smile, relieved that the pain was finally over.
I was no longer pinned against the wall. Five men entered the room and killed the demon with a sword. I was lying on the ground, still bleeding, but a woman came and started healing me with her magic. It took a few minutes, but I felt completely rejuvenated.
The five men instructed me to follow them. I wondered if Avery had passed. I hoped she's okay.
I was trailing the 5 dudes, and all of a sudden they halt in their tracks in front of a metal door. I guess they want me to go in, so I grab the handle, feeling pumped to face whatever challenge they throw at me. Not that I'm super confident, but I think I'm starting to figure out my purpose. I swing open the door, and inside, I see some folks who must have passed too.
As I eavesdrop, I hear people boasting about how they breezed through it, some even claiming they didn't get a scratch because of their special powers. Meanwhile, I endured a full-blown nightmare for 2 hours.
Just as I start muttering to myself, I feel a tap on my shoulder. I turn around to find Avery, flashing a grin.
"Hey, you made it through too! That demon was a piece of cake for me," she says, sounding all confident.
She then asks me about my experience with the challenge, looking genuinely curious.
"It felt like I was in the depths of hell, not gonna lie. Definitely not my finest hour, but hey, at least I made it," I reply.
Avery shoots me a slightly concerned look, but quickly brushes it off. "Well, I'm glad you made it through," she says, smiling a bit too close for comfort.
I can't help but wonder why I didn't get any special abilities like the others. Sighing, I take in my surroundings - it's like the starting point all over again, with the same screen and a big gate instead of 100 doors. And there are fewer people who made it through.
Suddenly, the screen lights up, showing a timer for a 6-minute break. Ah, a breather. I plop down on the floor, and Avery joins me. I realize I don't know much about her, besides her name. Maybe I should strike up a conversation to get to know her better.
"So, what made you decide to become a demon hunter?" I ask, peering at her.
She hesitates for a moment before responding, "If you don't want to share, that's totally fine," I quickly add, trying not to make things awkward.
"No, it's alright. The reason I chose to become a demon hunter is because back in my previous world, a demon took the lives of my sister and parents. Even I didn't survive. I'm sure my parents are in heaven, but they deserved a peaceful passing. That's why I'm determined to become a demon hunter," she explained, her gaze fixed on the ground as tears welled up in her eyes. Honestly, I can't even imagine how I would feel if I were in her shoes. I decided not to pry and gave her the space she needed.
Comparing myself to her, she has a valid reason to be a demon hunter. As for me, I just wanted to become one because my life was incredibly dull. I let out a sigh.
After waiting for six minutes, the timer finally reached zero. The screen switched to the image of an old man with an eye patch. I glanced at Avery, who appeared determined. I guess she really wants to eliminate those demons who killed her family. Alright, onto the next challenge. I took a deep breath, ready for whatever comes my way.
