Emma saw that the creature was somewhat far from her. She ran zig-zag through the forest and found a cavity inside a trunk. She got in and thought she lost the creature. But it was clever. It knew she didn't go far. It circled. Her leg shook heavily. She desired to scream but controlled herself. Her fingers went in her chattering teeth as the creature was in front of the tree she hid in. Some bugs crawled and bit over her feet, which made her scream. Hopefully, the creature was a little away when she got out of the trunk. She climbed the tree as it reached.
The creature couldn't reach the trunk after a lot of struggle. So, it took another clever action by acting. It gave up on her and began to walk ahead. To check, Emma showed as if she was climbing down. It ran again and tried attacking but failed. Two jackals who had run away during the battle went nearby. The creature was now distracted. Emma ran away.
While running, she heard the honking of a truck. She followed the voice and reached an actual road. Though she didn't get a chance to get a lift, she felt relieved. This forest made her realise how badly she wanted to survive. A frog hopped over her leg.
Emma wanted to reach the cemetery badly. It was better enduring the cemetery than getting hunted in this silverish forest. She heard footsteps incoming.
"Dad?" said Emma automatically.
(Don't forget she's 10 here)
The tree trunks began to contract and relax, almost as if they were breathing like humans. The sky grew murky, and lightning flashes were the only light source. Bats flew overhead as she sensed someone's presence behind her. However, upon turning around, there was nothing there. As she looked ahead, a creature appeared in front of her. It almost resembled a ghoul, as if necromancy had raised it from the ground.
Its gleaming yellow eyes were fixed on her as it let out a fierce roar. The wind picked up speed, and the screeching of bats became unbearable. Lightning struck the ground, provoking a fire in the grass. Emma covered her ears and screamed.
Somewhere in the screeches, she could detect some words, presumably incantations. The creature resembled the ghoul, the same ghoul hiding behind the tree in the cemetery. The road started turning into the cemetery. Gravestones came out of the road. The road ruptured into pieces that vanished from sight. Greyish-breathing trees evaporated from the ground, and usual trees appeared. Spirits were emanating from their graves.
The view was hauntingly beautiful, giving her shivers all over her body, like thorns on a rose. It was so extraordinary that it felt almost supernatural like she was being exposed to radiation. Her heart was beating so fast that she thought she might have a heart attack. It felt both freezing and burning sensations all over her body, almost as if she was experiencing unbearable anxiety.
"What is it? Am I dying? Is this hell or heaven?" Emma thought.
