Wei Wuxian parked his car in front of the site. It was well into the night now. He stared apprehensively at the building. Then he took out a small card from his bag and handed it to Lan Wangji, who was standing right next to him.

-This is Wen Ning's card. You can enter with it.

Lan Wangji stared at the object, then finally took it, thanking Wei Wuxian. Wei Wuxian was about to leave the car when Lan Wangji stopped him.

-Wei Ying, be careful, okay?

Wei Wuxian smiled, blushing slightly, then leaned over to Lan Wangji and kissed his cheek. He then left, whistling. Lan Wangji stayed a little longer in the car, frozen and flushed, his hand on the spot where Wei Wuxian had kissed him.

_

-Hello, Doctor. Why are you so out of hours?

-Hello, Tao. I forgot something at the office.

-Oh, I see. Make it quick, I'll be closing soon.

-Yes, sorry to disturb your work.

Outside, the storm was raging. Clearly, today was the perfect day to put the elaborate plan into action. Wei Wuxian retrieved the bag he had carefully prepared from his desk and waited. For his part, Lan Wangji, who had entered with Wei Wuxian's badge, found himself in front of the electric meter. With a spell, he cut off the power supply. When the light went out, Tao took a deep breath.

-A storm of my own... My salary is pathetic enough as it is, so please don't add to my workload.

He headed for the maintenance area. For his part, Wei Wuxian took the opportunity to sneak into the laboratory.

-Come on, it's done. No night cameras to film me, no alarms, paradise.

He hurried towards the basin.

-Jin Ling! Hurry up!

The boy climbed out of the water, helped by Wei Wuxian. This one then carried him like a princess to a new area of the building where there was access to the sea. Wei Wuxian set him down in front of the water and looked for something in his backpack.

-Okay, listen to me. We're going to swim to the peninsula opposite, over there. A car will be waiting for us.

Jin Ling nodded, then suddenly the alarm sounded. Wei Wuxian was shocked. Why had the alarm gone off? Then, the doors overlooking the sea began to close.

-Crap! Go, quick!

Jin ling dived in and got out in time before the doors closed completely, staring at Wei Wuxian as if to ask him what he was going to do. When the doors closed, Wei Wuxian froze.

-I'm in deep shit... I'm stuck here when I'm supposed to be in the offices, how am I going to get out?

He looked around.

-I hope at least Lan Zhan managed to get out...

_

On the other side of the center, Lan Wangji stared emotionlessly at the closed doors. He'd made it through in time. But this sudden alarm was not in the program. He had a very bad feeling.

_

Further away, Wen Ning stared at the structure of nothing. The alarm was sounding all the way.

-What had happened?

Then he heard the water shake beneath him. Jin Ling emerged from the water and faced him. Wen Ning stared at him for a few moments, then greeted him shyly. He pulled a blanket from the trunk of his car and wrapped it around the newt's shining body.

-Where's Wei Wuxian?

Despite the fact that he spoke no Chinese, Jin Ling immediately understood what the young man meant. So he lowered his eyes in shame. Humans were cruel, maybe his punishment for freeing him was going to be horrible. He pointed timidly at the building, and Wen Ning knew something had happened. But in the end, he focused on his mission, helped Jin Ling into his car and set off for home.

_

Alone in the dark, cold and damp, Wei Wuxian felt feverish. He sat motionless in the corner of the wall, looking dead. Somehow, he couldn't wait to be found. Then, the doors opened and a light shone through the darkened room. He heard a voice laughing.

-I can't wait to torture the one who dared to liberate my property.

"Wen Chao..."

The egocentric boss stepped closer to him, and opened his eyes wide when he saw who the man he was looking for was.

-Wei Wuxian?!

He remained perplexed for a few moments, giving Wei Wuxian time to think. He felt like screaming at him, calling him names, even if it meant getting fired. But the cold had weakened him and he didn't have the strength. Wen Chao finally pulled himself together and stared at Wei Wuxian. Then a hint of amusement came into his eyes.

-Take him away.

_

Wen Ning stepped on the gas, but suddenly stopped when he saw that the road was crowded. Further down the line, the military were checking each car.

-Oh, no!

He pointed out a huge blanket to Jin Ling, which the newt took to camouflage himself. But Wen Ning was far from reassured. A plaid wouldn't be enough to keep the controllers in the dark. So, after losing all lucidity, as the two soldiers approached the car, he reversed and drove off violently. The two men got into their car and set off in pursuit of Wen Ning's sports car. In the back, Jin Ling went into survival mode and fastened his seatbelt.

Wen Ning was single-handedly destroying 18 rules of the road. He was going to lose his license, get a hefty fine and probably get fired for taking part in newt's escape. He was going to lose everything, but he didn't care. He wanted to be useful, for once, to help this being who hadn't asked for anything.

However, he couldn't outrun the military car. No matter how fast he drove at 178, nothing could stop the two men, who were shouting into a megaphone at Wen Ning to stop.

No logical solution emerged in Wen Ning's mind. So, after imploring heaven one last time, he drifted off the road. His car rolled down the small hill before reaching the sea. The water slowed the fall, but the car was now completely submerged, and Wen Ning was beginning to have difficulty breathing. In the back, Jin Ling untied himself and tried to save the driver. He tried to remove his seatbelt, which proved difficult. The car was now completely under water, and Wen Ning was losing consciousness. Jin Ling tried to smash the window. After yet another effort, the glass shattered. He immediately rose to the surface, depositing the unconscious Wen Ning on the shore.

-Can you hear me?

With no answer, Jin Ling didn't know what to do. Then, in the distance, voices were heard. So he jumped into the water and swam as deeply as he could. The water was opaque and dark, which was hardly reassuring. Jin Ling cowered in a corner, trying to regain his composure. Wei Wuxian and Wen Ning were both in a bad way because of him. After regaining some composure, he explored the surrounding area and came upon Wen Ning's car, lodged in the sand. He entered it through the broken window and stayed inside, as if it were a cocoon designed to protect her. He grabbed the blanket he'd been carrying earlier and stood there, motionless, as silence reigned.
