Jennie ran into his arms and spoke gloomily. "Lisa, I'm not pregnant."
"I know." Lisa caressed her long, soft hair. "Didn't Shi Qian say that we'll have one eventually?"
He had secretly undergone a check-up and confirmed that he did not have any problems in that area.
However, it was true that she had remained without a child for the past two years. He wanted to say that there weren't any problems with his body but he quickly swallowed those words back down.
If she still did not conceive in the future and the Manoban family's elders pressured her, he would tell them that it was his problem.
She said unhappily, "What do we do if I really can't conceive?"
"In that case, we'll spend the rest of our lifetime together." He brushed his fingers through her hair and savoured the soft, comfortable sensation.
She shook her head. "The Manoban family's elders won't agree to this."
"We're not spending our lifetime with them." Lisa lifted her head and looked at her seriously. "My wife, don't feel any pressure to have a child. If they dare to interfere with this, at most we'll live permanently in the Yu Ting Villa and never return to the old Manoban family's mansion."
"Alright." She nodded. "I've decided. Even if I remain a hen that can't lay eggs, I won't let go of you."
His gaze was doting as he watched her. He then frowned. "What do you mean by a 'hen that can't lay eggs'? Who dares to speak about you in that manner? I'll rip their lips off. You're my most precious treasure in this lifetime!"
"En, en." She leaned into his warm embrace and felt safe.
If she never conceived in this lifetime, though there would be some regrets, she would still treasure her time with him.
In the Jing Xin Residence behind the old Manoban family's mansion, Somi had just returned home. She sat down on the couch with a dark expression.
Huang Zhishu handed her a bowl of bird's nest soup that she had personally prepared. "My daughter, you've just been released. It must have been tough on you. Have some of this to replenish your body's nutrients."
"What do you mean by 'released'!" Somi glared at her as she sipped the bird's nest soup. "I was only detained for three days. Don't exaggerate!"
Kai shot his sister an unhappy look. "Why are you losing your temper at Mom?"
Somi was infuriated. "I'm just angry. Those damned Manoban family's elders watched while I was being detained when a single word from them would have been enough to prevent this. What made me more furious was that when I went to greet them this morning, the three of them were busy instructing the doctor to give Jennie a check-up. They didn't even give me a proper glance."
"Enough, enough. Don't be angry anymore." Huang Zhishu's heart ached for her daughter. "We'll kill them all one day."
Kai suddenly frowned. "Jennie is doing well. What's the need for a sudden check-up?"
Huang Zhishu responded. "The Manoban family must be wanting to know if she would have any problems conceiving."
Somi placed the bird's nest soup down. "Does she? They have been cohabitating for so long. Could she already be pregnant?"
A hint of viciousness flashed past her eyes.
If Jennie, that whore, dared to become pregnant, she would not only force her into an abortion but would leave her unable to conceive for the rest of her life!
"The results aren't out yet." Huang Zhishu glanced towards the door.
At this moment, a maid hurried over. She whispered into Huang Zhishu's ear before backing away.
"Mom, how is it?" Somi stood up in agitation.
"Based on the blood test, Jennie isn't pregnant." Huang Zhishu told her the result.
"It's good that she isn't pregnant. If she is, it would be troublesome trying to remove that child." Somi appeared deep in thought.
