Yet another day where I am racing to the daycare. I tried calling Quinn three times with no answer. I admit, I was kind of nervous. Quinn always answers the phone, but I know Quinn would never let anything bad happen to my kids. I turned into the parking lot to see a nice silver car parked. I parked next to it and got out. I ran up to the door and came in.
"Hadlee?" I heard Quinn call out.
"Hi, I'm sorry I'm late again. Why didn't you answer the phone."
"I was signing up a new kid!" She smiled. I walked into the main room to see the kids playing. There was a girl playing with Keegan at the dollhouse. A man was sitting in a tiny chair, probably signing paperwork.
"Mr. Horan, this is my good friend Hadlee Hills. These three kids are hers." Quinn introduced me.
"Hello." He said with a small smile on his face. He got up from the chair and walked over to me. He looked me up and down during the few steps it took for him to be face to face to me. He held out a hand and widened his smile. "You can call me Niall." I shook his hand and smiled back.
"Hadlee." I told him even though Quinn already informed him. He turned to face Quinn.
"Well, I think I am finished here. Laney looks like she is already taking a liking to this place. Thank you for everything." He smiled nicely before walking over to the little girl and grabbing her hand. I picked up Lucas who was asleep in a bouncer and the two older kids were by my side. I walked out, saying goodbye to Quinn. Niall following behind me with his daughter as well. We didn't speak to one another, just put our kids in the car and drove our separate ways. I heard Keegan humming in the backseat.
"What song are you singing?" I asked her.
"It's called Rockin' Robin. Laney taught it to me. It's funny mom." She giggled.
"Do you like Laney?"
"Yes, we are best friends. Can we have a play date tomorrow? It's Friday!"
"Maybe sweetheart." I told her as we pulled into the parking lot of our apartment complex. It wasn't ideal for a family but it was a good community. With a great school just down the road. We all headed to the second floor of the three story building and went inside. It's a small apartment, two bedrooms. Noah and Lucas share one and Laney gets her own. I sleep on the couch which is actually more comfortable than most beds I've had. I start making dinner while the kids sit in the living room and watch whatever Noah put on on Netflix.
Once were done with dinner the kids and I take turns in the shower/bath and go to sleep.
