Carnation tried (and failed) to keep from limping as she made her way to the throne room. She automatically scanned her surroundings for weapons, exits, and hiding places. Her mind was alert, only, her body wasn't. The new feeling of helplessness made her chest hurt

The two throne room guards stared at her, one holding a spear, the other a scroll, and one of them grumbled, "Name."

"Carnation."

The guard scanned the names on his scroll before grunting in satisfaction. "You may enter."

They slowly swung the doors open, and Carnation stepped inside, bowing low before the Queen of the SkyWings before meeting her eyes. Queen Scarlet stared at her for several moments, tapping a claw against her throne. "Oh, Carnation, what ever shall I do with you now?"

Carnation's heart sank. "I could work for you in the palace." She offered. "I could give you all my treasure for a room here"

"Oh, dear, what use would a lame servant be? As for the jewels, I'm quite sure your meager collection would be, quite frankly, useless to me.".

Carnation stood in silence, failing to think of a way to convince the queen to help her.

Finally, her majesty spoke again. "I'm afraid I simply no longer have a use for you. For the time being, you are relieved."

Carnation felt like she'd been hit in the chest with a spear shaft. "Yes, your majesty." She bowed low a second time, then made her way slowly back to the entrance. The guards gave her pitying looks as she walked by.
