"Briana, are you ok?" Pam asked, seeing me getting paler by the second.
No, I wasn't OK. I was going to faint. I was going to die. This couldn't be happening. For a moment, I had forgotten to breathe. Was I dreaming? A wave of heat washed through my body and I felt dizzy. It must be a mirage. I was surely just imagining. But as he moved towards us with urgency, I knew I wasn't.
"Bri... Bri... you're passing out. Hey!" She tried to support me. My legs felt like jelly, unable to hold my weight any longer. "Oh my God, Bri!" she screamed. "Someone help me, she fainting!"
My sight blurred for a moment. My legs gave out, and I was going to hit the floor. The bodyguards rushed towards us and someone held me.
"Briana!" Pam cried.
I blinked, and I found myself looking into two deep blue eyes. I shuddered as I saw his face. He was very close to me, looking at me with curiosity. His arms felt so good around me, the warmth of his body engulfed me.
"Hello? Are you ok?"
My heart thundered in my chest as he caressed my face.
"Hey.. Talk to me?" He said in a deep voice. I had never heard his voice, or at least I don't remember, but I loved the way it sounded. It was deep and husky.
"Yes..." I said weakly when finally I found my voice. He sighed with relief and smiled, and I almost fainted again.
"Wow, what a fright you gave us! I'm used to girls being excited to see me. But no one ever fainted."
"I didn't faint because of you," I said brusquely. The initial shock subsided as I tried to regain strength and move away from his grip. Not that I wanted to. It felt nice to be in his arms. I wondered how it felt to be in his bed. My face must have flushed at the thought of him making love to me and he realized.
"Are you sure?" He said softly. "You're blushing."
Wow, he has the cockiness of his brother. It seems all the Baxters have Egos the size of a house. I didn't reply.
"Then why did you almost faint? Are you sick?" He asked. His arms were still around my waist and he didn't seem in a hurry to take them off me.
I kept gazing at him, not knowing what to do, or how to react. Leo's brother. From all the men on earth, it had to be Leo's brother. I wondered if he recognized me. Probably not. He didn't look shocked or anything. Although he kept scrutinizing my face.
"I'm sorry," I said as I tried to straighten up. He helped me.
"It must be the heat and the fact that I didn't eat anything yet this morning. I was such in a hurry that I didn't have time. I didn't know you were arriving today, and I didn't want to leave you waiting."
"My brother, didn't let you have breakfast? Typical of him, dictating the life of those around him. You're Briana right, his excellent and efficient secretary?"
"Yeah. How do you know?" I asked.
"Oh, he said a lot of things about you and described you so well. But he didn't exaggerate when he said you're beautiful. He's right."
"Ah, thank you. I see that charm runs in the family." I said as I tried to avoid his gaze. It made me feel uneasy and weak and I couldn't risk fainting again."
He smiled. "I'm Liam."
I shook his hand, and the moment my fingers touched his, I felt a spark. My skin tingled. He must have felt it too, as he gave me a strange look and retrieved his hand.
