"I wish you to know you have been the last dream of my soul."

Ruhanika

His face dropped as I released my hand from his grasp. The bright moonlight bathed his features, casting soft shadows and making every contour of his expression perfectly visible. Around us, fireflies danced like tiny floating stars, their gentle glow creating an atmosphere of intimacy and seduction.

Lowering myself onto my knees in front of him, I cupped his face tenderly, my thumbs caressing the slight stubble on his cheeks. Tears spilled down my face—tears not of sorrow, but of profound joy. I couldn’t contain the rush of emotions, and though words failed me, I nodded fervently, my heart swelling with love.

"Not like this, Rooh," he murmured, his voice barely above a whisper, raw with emotion. "Let me hear your voice. Tell me if you are ready to marry me. Will you accept me as your husband? Will you help me become the happiest man alive?"

My lips trembled as I drew in a shaky breath. Locking eyes with him, I finally found my voice.

"Yes, Dev, I will marry you," I said, my voice steady but thick with emotion. "Not because I want you as my husband, but because I want to be your wife. I want to be the only woman you will ever love. I’m selfish like that—I can’t share you with anyone. I want to marry you not just to be with you, but because I cannot live without you. I want to marry you because I wish to belong to you in every lifetime. You, Dev, are the home I’ve been searching for, and now that I’ve found it, I can never let it go."

His eyes glistened with unshed tears as he whispered, "You are sure, na? I won’t let you leave me after this. Even in death, I will follow—"

"Dev!" I cut him off sharply, placing a trembling hand over his mouth. "How dare you? I told you never to use that word again. Why don’t you ever listen to me?" My voice cracked with anger and fear. That word—death—struck a chord deep within me. I had lost so much in life, but not Dev. I could endure being separated from him, but the thought of losing him forever was unbearable.

I attempted to stand, my frustration mounting, but he pulled me into a fierce hug, his warmth anchoring me.

"I’m sorry, my darling. Please don’t be angry. I promise, I won’t say that word again," he whispered soothingly into my ear. "It’s just… I can’t believe you’ve agreed to marry me."

I exhaled shakily, my anger melting under his gentle touch. Pulling back slightly, I looked into his eyes.

"Promise me you’ll never say it again," I demanded, my voice softer but no less firm. "I’ve lost so many people, Dev. If I lose you…" My voice broke, and I couldn’t finish the sentence.

He cupped my face and nodded solemnly. "I promise. I won’t say it again. Forgive me?"

I nodded, and his lips curled into a relieved smile. Leaning down, he pressed a soft kiss to my forehead, and my heart fluttered. He stood, pulling me up with him, and wrapped his arms around me from behind. Together, we gazed at the waterfall before us, its cascading waters sparkling in the moonlight.

"The waterfall is beautiful," I murmured, resting my hands over his where they lay gently on my stomach, above my dupatta. "It’s my first time seeing so many fireflies. We don’t get to see them in the city anymore. My grandmother used to tell me about them—she grew up in the countryside."

"It’s breathtaking," he agreed, his chin resting on the top of my head. "If you want, I can bring you here every day."

I chuckled softly. "Every day? Aren’t you a prince with a kingdom to rule? You can’t abandon your duties just to indulge me."
