Tanjiro and Tamiko now walked together to his first ever mission as a demon slayer. It was in northwest where girls have been vanishing through the night.
"Nezuko, you okay in there?" Tanjiro asks his sister who was currently resting in the new box made by Urokodaki on his back.
"Maybe she is sleeping, Nii-san," Tamiko smiled when he got no response making him nod. He cupped her small hand in his larger one, giving it a gentle squeeze.
The moment they both reached their destination, both siblings looked around for the demon when their eyes caught a sight of a disheveled and dazed man.
He was quite good looking, with his short brown hair and eyes as he held a disheartened look on his face.
"Poor fellow, his fiance went missing last night, just like rest of girls before." They heard a townsfolk speaking as they walked towards him.
"Execuse me, we heard the rumors of girls being vanished in the middle of night. Can you please take us where your fiance disappeared last night?" Tanjiro asks.
"I know it must be hard to lose one's beloved sir, but if you help us maybe we can help you find your beloved? Would you please help us?" Tamiko asks, stepping up when her brother got no answer.
Kazumi, the man, looked at tamiko as his eyes glistened with hope hearing her words. "Are you sure? You would help me find Satoko?"
"We will try our very best sir, you have my words." Kazumi smiled full of hope, hearing her assuring words as he guided them towards the alley in town where the couple took their last walk together.
"We were just taking a night walk after returning from our date. One moment she was with me, talking happily about our date and the next moment when I turned to her, she vanished in thin air, like she wasn't there to begin with. I told everyone about this but nobody believes me, saying I'm too delusional or just making up things." Kazumi stared down on ground sadily. He remembers when he told Satoko’s parents; her father had beaten him severely for blaming her disappearance as her simply vanishing, to the anguish of Satoko’s mother.
"Nobody believes you, but we do." He gazed at them surprised as Tanjiro began his investigation.
With his keen sense of smell, Tanjiro caught a faint scent of demon. As they continue about the town, Tanjiro remains observant and sniffs around the area, to the confusion of the townsfolk. As the sun sets, Tanjiro reaffirms Kazumi’s words that she really did vanish, hence why he is here.
"Um Tanjiro, its nearly night now, we can continue to search when its morning. Take some rest for now," Kazumi called out worried but Tanjiro remains vigilant and continues to smell around the area.
"No, we cannot rest. Moreover, those things are only active during night. Its of no use to search in morning." Tanjiro replied making him stare at him bewildered.
Suddenly, Tanjiro gets up and begins to run away, to the confusion of Kazumi. "The scent is now stronger and the demon is now around. Tamiko, come with me," He grabbed her hand before pulling her in his chest.
"Hold on tight tamiko," The brunette clinged onto his haori tightly, laying her head on his chest. She yelps feeling cold air brushing against her skin as he leaps into the air to run atop the roof tiles, her grip around his torso tightened as he held her even closer to him.
Kazumi was left stunned by his high jump and realized that Tanjiro is indeed a member of the Demon Slayer Corps. He looked at their forms becoming smaller and smaller with each jump before following them.
Landing in another alleyway, Tanjiro senses the demon’s presence and a woman’s scent. He gently set Tamiko down, his hand still left on her waist as he slowly leaned in,"Tamiko I can smell a demon close by with a woman's scent. Now, I want you to rescue her the moment you get the chance while I handle him, okay? Would you do that for me?"
