Friends...? - Chapter 5

'Wow, you really do hate me. You really think I can't change.'  Shadow's words echoed through Tails's head. Is it me? No it couldn't, I know who he is. He's a monster, I'll never forgive him for what he did to Sonic... to the world that day. Tails thought. It is time.

Tails pulled out his phone, he was laying in his bed. Waiting for the sun to rise over the horizon. Guilt swirled around Tails's stomach, he must do what he should of done a while ago. He dialed Shadow's number, he knew it from Sonic leaving it on the fridge. While the phone was ringing, Tails rehearsed what he was gonna say. Eventually, the call was answered.

"Hello, how is this?" Shadow asked in a polite tone, which shocked Tails. He took a deep breath and answered Shadow.

"Hello Shadow. Um... This is Tails." Tails answered with hesitation. Tails heard Shadow about to hang up. "NO WAIT!" Tails shouted.

"What." Shadow groaned.

"Look, I just want to say, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said what I said last night. If you are going to be dating Sonic for long terms, we better start becoming friends." Tails finished, but Shadow said nothing for a while. "Shadow?"

"Thank you." Shadow whispered. "I hate to say this, but you're right. Where do you wanna meet?" Shadow asked.

"How about... the park?" Tails suggested.

"Deal. 7 p.m to 9 p.m." Shadow agreed.

"Cool, see you there." Tails sighed, Shadow hanged up. At that moment, Sonic entered the room.

"Hi Tails." Sonic greeted. He walked up to Tails, and gave him a big hug. He seemed a bit hurt after last night, but things are always changing. "Mind if I ask, who was on the phone with you?" Tails gulped.

"Uh... It was um... Shadow?" Tails voice was hardly other then a squeak. Sonic's eyes widen.

"Shadow?!" He yelled.

"Yeah, I apolgized for last night. Were meeting up tonight." Tails explained.

"Oh. Well, breakfst is ready if you need it." Sonic smiled and walked out of the room.

"Ok thanks." Tails yelled for Sonic to hear, then quietly mumbled, "I hope you can forgive me."

-7 p.m at the park-

Tails and Shadow locked eyes, as soon as Tails showed up.

"Hello Shadow."

"Hello Tails."

"So, sorry for last night." Tails mumbled, looking down at the ground. He knew this was going to be the longest 2 hours of his life.

"We all make mistakes." Shadow stated blankly.

"Um... wanna take a walk?" Tails asked. Shadow shrugged.

"Sure." They both started walking, the first 15 minutes was highly akward. They both wouln't look at each other. Untill finally Tails gave it a try.

"I have a question." Tails started.

"Yes?"

"Why do you-" Tails paused, taking a deep breath and facing Shadow, "Why do you like Sonic?" Tails finished. Shadow looked at Tails with a confused face.

"Well, I think he's cute. He is really optimistic, happy, and never gives up. He is the opposite of me, but I like that. He also is a really interesting person. Don't forget he's kinda funny. Hyper, but in the best way." Shadow chuckled softly. Tails never heard Shadow laugh, ever.

"How did you guys even start dating?" Tails asked.

"Um... We always liked each other, very flirty, but never really anything other then that. Until one day, instead of fighting, we talked. For hours. I for some reason was brave enough to do the first move. I kissed his cheek. And well Sonic then-" (Authors note: We're gonna keep this PG)

"Oh. Then?"

"We started hanging out more, then we actully started dating. I never wanted to tell anyone, but Sonic said we eventully had too. He told me, 'We should tell Tails first, because he always accepts my choices'..." Once Shadow finished, there was an akward silence.

"I'm really sorry Shadow." Tails mumbled.

"It's fine, I also tried to like, convince Sonic to put you up for adoption." Shadow scratched his head, and turned away.

"Oh yeah..." Tails laughed a little, "Why did you do that?"

"Well... I was kinda worried about you." Shadow looked back at Tails, "I love Sonic, but he's not responsible. I just wanted you to be raised by actual parents. But now I realize, there's nothing wrong with Sonic."

"Oh well, yeah. I think I was raised fine. We had a few moments..." Tails pauses, "So, um... Sonic decided once it was a great idea to make 100 cans of homemade jelly. When I came home, they cans just covered the entire living room. So lazy." Tails laughed.

"Then what?" Shadow asked.

"I told him we had to get rid of these. He said no, and made entire tower, which eventully tipped over. There was jelly EVERYWHERE. Hours of cleaning, well not me. In conclusion, Sonic is a terrible room mate." Tails finished. Shadow chuckled softly.

"That sounds like him, he probably hated cleaning that."

"Oh yeah, it was 'why me' and 'I didn't meant too!' That didn't convince me though." Tails explained. They kept talking and eventully 9 p.m. hit.

"Gotta go!" Tails yelled, while calling Sonic for a ride. Shadow was gonna leave, but Sonic was coming. When Sonic showed up, Tails ran into the car.

"Thanks Shadow. You know how much I love seeing you guys as friends." Sonic smiled, "Oh, one more thing do you need a ride?" Sonic asked.

"Of course..." Shadow saw Tails in the car, "...not." Shadow finished. Sonic gave a hurt expression. "Hey! I can always chaos control myself! Why do you even own a car? You can run!"

"I own a car, because Tails isn't as fast as me!" Sonic growled.

"I didn't mean it to be rude!" Shadow exclaimed, though Sonic was already rolling up the window. "I love you!" Shadow yelled over the window. Sonic pulled out. Tails was fast a sleep in the car. Why Shadow acting so strange lately? Sonic thought.
