After my conversation with Layla, I stepped into the elevator aimed for the ground floor. Exiting the elevator, on the ground floor where Ava was waiting for me, I found Ava waiting for me during her break time. I was still confused and walked to her with my straight face.
"What's with the serious face? How did the interview go?" she inquired, unable to read my blank expression.
"Hired" I replied flatly.
"Yes, I knew it!" she exclaimed with a huge smile on her face, she was happier than me.
"Why the long face then? Why do you look so confused? " she asked when I didn't smile return her smile.
I proceeded to tell her the whole story.
"Because I'm jobless"
"I don't want to be a burden on my parents or this country."
She burst into laughter, echoing my strange and weird answers. I shot her a glare, but she never took me seriously.
"See! I told you, only a weirdo can handle a weirdo. He was impressed by your beautiful and unique answers," she chuckled.
"It's really weird, I bumped into him, nearly got into a fight with him, yet he still hired me?" I questioned.
"Maybe he's not the type of person who hold grudges and seeks revenge during an interview. And according to you, he doesn't seem to recognize you at all. And according to me, maybe he's not the person you bumped into," she reasoned.
"I'm pretty sure it was him. I didn't get a good look at him then, but yes, it was him," I insisted.
"Okay, okay, knock it. You passed the interview and got the job. End of story," she declared, checking her watch.
"Yes, I got it," I said with a smile this time.
Returning the smile, she hugged me and mentioned that her break was almost over; she needed to get back to work. I was glad we'd be working for the same company, though unfortunately not in the same department. Her office was on the 18th floor, while mine was on the 16th.
After that, I was back in my apartment, tired, hungry, and confused. I didn't want to think about Eden Miller anymore, or my mind would explode. I changed into something comfortable, had lunch and began searching for apartments closer to my workplace, as my current one was too far.
---
On Saturday, I physically visited several apartments, but after seeing many of them, I couldn't find a suitable one. On my way back, I called Ava to see if she was free to meet. Luckily, she was. I ended up at her apartment, sharing my housing dilemma. She said she would help me and offered to let me live in her apartment, but I didn't want to intrude on her privacy, as she has a boyfriend. It would be awkward for me, as I'm not one for relationships. I knew if I lived with her, she would face a break up, because I usually bad mouth to all the boys and will prove her that her boyfriend is not loyal, even if he is.
She assured me she'd help me in finding a good place. She's truly a lifesaver.
"Now that you have a job," she suggested, "Why not celebrate?"
"Celebrate what?" I questioned.
"A party! We're hitting the club tonight, and you can't say no," she chuckled.
"Um... okay!, because it's Sunday tomorrow and it's been a while..." Before I could finish my sentence, Ava interrupted, "Good girl, guess what?"
"What?"
"James is joining us," she announced with a huge smile on her face. James, yes, her boyfriend.
"And thanks to James, we'll have VIP clubbing," she added joyfully.
I knew I couldn't refuse her now; I had already agreed. I guess I have no choice now.
Since we're going to the club, I returned to my apartment and rummaged through my closet for a suitable outfit, as they had been gathering dust for ages.
