RABYA
I felt like throwing up with every passing second. I'm just few miles away from my home and I don't know why this fear is creaping into my veins. I'm scared to see Maa. She's going to despise me and even when I crave to wrap my arms around her, she's never going to let me do it.
I gripped the car's seat and tried not to cry. It's okay, Rabya. You're going to see her. Her health is more important. Even if she never forgives me, I'd be okay if she continues to live a healthy life.
“Rabya? Are you okay?” Adhrit asked.
I simply nodded my head but the suffocation tightened in my chest. No. I'm not okay.
I pursued my lips into a thin line when we finally reached out destination. My legs were numb when I stepped out of the car. I slipped the veil away from my face and walked to the door. I pressed the doorbell and held my breath in anticipation till my aunt came to open the door. Her eyebrows shot up in suprise seeing me and Adhrit but she quickly masked it and offered a big smile to him. She welcomed him and told everyone that we're here.
Nobody knows that I was about to come.
“Did Rabya do something wrong? Please forgive us—” Maa said as soon as she entered in the hallway.
I clenched my fists to stop myself from jumping into her arms.
Adhrit quickly get up from the couch to touch the feet of my mother for taking her blessings. “How's your health?” He asked, making her sit on the couch.
“I'm good. Why are you asking?” She whispered, casting a brief look at me. I can sense worry in her eyes.
“Rabya told me about the tests that you've undergone.” He added.
“I'm good. You shouldn't have bothered yourself. You must me tired from the journey.” She spoke.
Driver took bags full of fresh fruits and dry fruits inside and put them on the table.
When did Adhrit bought all this? And why?
“Why are you talking like this? You're also like a mother to me. Besides, Rabya was worried about you.” He took a sip from the glass full of water.
I bit on my lips. Tapping my feet, I anxiously wondered if I say something to Maa infront of Adhrit, will she then hold a conversation with me? She'd never want to let him know that despises me, isn't it?
“Why are you sitting like this? Aren't you going to hug your mother?” Adhrit chuckled.
My heart halted after hearing his words. I snapped my eyes at him and saw an assurance on his face. He already knows about my anticipation. It slipped from my mouth yesterday that I'm ashamed to face my mother. He's doing this for me.
I nodded and without wasting another second, I latched myself into my mother's arms. Her familiar scent engulfed me and I was taken back to the time when I was in college, she used to hug me whenever I returned back to the home. She was always emotional to see me and offered me her bright smile.
“How are you, Maa?” I asked not being able to stop myself.
