Blurred Haze

I wake up in a haze. The white walls reflect the harsh light through out the room.

The very empty room. Where is everyone? Am I still in the pack infirmary? Where is Daxton? He said he would be here.

I notice an oxygen mask over my face and immediately groan. How long have I been out for if they had to put me on oxygen?

I hear the door creak open before a man in a white jacket walks in. "Luna, you're awake." He breathes, looking at me carefully.

I look down on my arm to see an IV and begin to panic a little. "It's okay." The man sighs, taking the needle out of my arm.

"How are you Luna?" He asks, causing me to shrug. "I-I" I attempt, trying to get my words out. My shoulders begin to shake again as I lean my head back into my pillow.

"Are you okay Luna?" He asks, causing me to shake my head. He puts his wrist to my forehead, his eyes widening at the result.

"You're freezing." He notes, sighing. The door opens again as Austyn walks in. "Hey Hoffman, Dax wants to know- hey Adisyn." He says, noticing my gaze fixated on him.

"We were starting to think you wouldn't wake up." Austyn says, kneeling beside my bed.

"She has the chills." Hoffman notes, looking at Austyn. "I'll go get Alpha." Austyn pledges, taking his large jacket off.

"He was just doing a perimeter check, everyone has been keeping their eyes out for that stray. No one hurts our Luna and gets away with it." Austyn soothes, wrapping his jacket around my shoulders.

I nod feebly, causing him to smile. "He will be here, I'll take his place for a bit." He promises, ruffling my hair before running out the door.

"Here Luna." Hoffman says, draping another blanket over my shoulders. "T-thank you Hoffman." I say, shooting him a feeble smile.

"Of course Luna, anything you need." He smiles. "Alpha is just outside, I'll leave you two for a bit." He adds, hanging his jacket on a hook before walking out.

The door opens seconds later as Dax walks through. I note instantly that his skin is paler than I remember it originally being.

His blue eyes are lined in dark bags now and his eyes blink rapidly.

"Adisyn." He whispers, he must me out of breath from running all the way here. "How are you doing?" He asks, rubbing his eyes.

"Y-you look e-exhausted." I note, trying to keep my teeth from chattering. "I'm fine." He assures.

He walks over to me, a growl low in his throat. "Who's jacket?" He asks me simply. "A-austyn's." I whimper, curling in on myself.

"Why?" He poses, his voice tainted with jealousy. "I-I have the chills." I reply quietly, closing my eyes.

"No, no, no." He sighs, walking up to me. "Here." He says, lifting up the corner of my blanket and replacing Austyn's jacket with his own.

His feverish skin brushes my arm and I can't help but gasp. "What?" He asks, looking at me oddly.

"Y-you're really warm, I-I'm sorry." I stutter. He looks at me for a second before putting his head in his hands.

"Why didn't I think of that, you're freezing." He sighs. "Wolves run temperatures above fever." He informs, looking at me.

"P-please." I beg, lifting the corner of the blanket. He nods quickly, crawling under my pile of blankets.

"Here, it will help I promise." He says, stripping me of the jacket before laying down beside me.

He looks at me cautiously as I peer at him. "You need sleep." I note, causing him to sigh.

"You sound just like everyone else." He groans. "Yes, but it is you're job to take care of them. Do you know what my job is?" I ask, looking at him expectantly.

"Getting better?" He poses, causing me to shake my head. "To take care of you, and you haven't been sleeping." I observe.

"So, I'll make you a deal." I say, shooting him a sheepish smile. "And what would that be?" He inquires.

"You stay here, you can be near me and make sure I'm okay. But you need to get some sleep." I persuade, causing him to nod.

He closes his eyes, laying his head back into my pillows. "The nurturing instinct is strong in you, the mating pull as well." He says, a smile on his face.

"Well, if you're going to be around my entire life I suppose caring for you is going to be imminent." I laugh.

He let's out an airy chuckle at this, curling himself away from me. .
"Dax?" I ask, causing him to roll over and open his eyes.

"Yes angel?" He asks in response, rubbing at his tired eyes. "T-this is a stupid question and all, since we just met of course. But you're right beside me and I'm really cold and you on the other hand are really warm and-" "Angel, come here." He laughs, opening his arms for me.

I shoot him a sheepish smile, sliding into his grasp easily. "Holy you're cold." He comments as I burry my nose into his neck.

"Sorry." I sigh, wrapping my arms around his waist. I hear him let out a low hum of approval, rubbing my back in an attempt to warm me up.

"Sleep." I order, pulling back to see that his eyes are still open. "But I haven't seen you awake in about a week." He pouts, moving a curl out of my eyes.

"A week?" I ask, outraged. "Yeah, the antidote knocked you out pretty good since you're so tiny, and we've never used it on a human before. We had no idea what was going to happen." He sighs.

I see the sadness in his eyes and lay my forehead against his, causing his eyes to widen. "I'm right here, okay?" I ask, causing him to nod.

"I'll be right here when you wake up too." I assure. "Okay." He smiles, pulling me back into his chest.

"Good night Dax." I smile, burying my face into his neck. "Good night Luna." He smiles.
