Alright so this isn't gonna be super formal, it's just a backstory for the Potter family, and Morrigan's parentage + powers/abilities.

I would strongly recommend reading this, as I might have changed something from canon, and it may have a different background compared to other fan fiction.

So basically the potters are descendants from the main Peverell branch, meaning they are inherently grey and not light or dark. they practice certain branches of "dark" magic. I'm personally of the belief that magic is magic, it's the intentions behind the magic that matter. For example, you could easily use a wingardium leviosa to lift someone to the edge of the cliff, and then cancel it, causing them to fall and die. now I haven't done a lot of research into the intricacies of magic, so it's all surface-level info. now back to the point!

James Potter grew up in a time when Voldemort was starting to gain power, so any kind of whispers he may have heard at any kind of social gathering as a kid about "dark" magic, would have influenced his attitude towards magic that in a world without war, he would have grown up learning how to use, and understand, and would have explored it properly, and would have reveled in that magic in my opinion. reminder, that instead of being disgusted by Remus being a werewolf, a "dark" creature (like a light wix would), or even thinking about how this could be useful towards him (like a dark wix would), he thinks of a way to help Remus when he is in his werewolf form, to cause him less pain. This in my opinion is inherently grey behavior. I think that with Voldemort's whole rise of power, his parents may have only taught him the bare minimum of the Peverell/Potter magicks and thought that when he grew older and the suspicions of "dark" magic subsided, they would be able to properly teach him about his family magicks. Because of all of these factors, I think that despite him actually being grey, he perceived himself as being a light wizard, and that delving into any kind of magic not publicly known as light is wrong.

However, all of this changes when James' parents die of dragon pox when he is 19. At this point in time, James has graduated from Hogwarts and is going through Auror training, while also a part of the Order of the Phoenix, fighting directly against Voldemort under Dumbledore's orders. James has also married Lily Potter née Evans when he turned 18, as she finally gave him a chance and started dating him when he finally matured and used his brains for things aside from pranking. When Fleamont and Euphemia Potter die, they leave a will, in which they leave all of their belongings to their son James. Aside from that, they also leave James a letter containing instructions to go to the family vault and view some memories that Fleamont had stored for James to watch in the family pensive. James proceeds to do so and watches as his father tells him the entire family history, about the Peverells, about their line being favored by the Greek God of Death, Thanatos, because they were direct descendants of Ignotus Peverell, a wizard who earned Thanatos's respect. Fleamont tells James about their family's true alliance towards the grey wixen to keep the balance, explains how James has actually shown that he is grey, despite he himself thinking he is light, and explains the reason as to why they hadn't gotten to show James the family magicks due to the political climate at the time. Fleamont also explains how every wixen or wix that has married into the Potter family has also been inclined to the grey side of magic, and how he and Euphemia had discreetly performed a spell on Lily to make sure that she was also the same before approving their marriage.

From that day on, every spare moment James gets, he spends learning all kinds of magic that he previously would have scorned, and actually notices that by using the magic his family, his blood, use, all spells he's been using prior to learning about his history, has actually gradually been becoming stronger than ever. this is something that Lily notices about him, but doesn't bring it up as she assumes that either James has been putting more focus in when casting spells, or that James will tell her in his own time if something else has happened. Once James feels as if he has learned a sufficient amount of basics about his family magicks (about a month after his parents died), he tells his wife, Lily, about what his father told him via pensive memories, and shares a set of memories specially left to her in his parents will. This set of memories is especially from Euphemia in which she gives Lily a set of instructions on what a person marrying into the family will experience with the family magicks and how to be accepted by them, as well as any effects she will have on her person, especially when ill or carrying a child. ————————————————————————————————
