The leaderboard

It's quarter to twelve, you should've been asleep by now but instead you're tossing and turning in your broken slumber until you hear a creak from downstairs it seems that your father is back from his hero duty's. You wonder if you should pretend to be asleep or if you should start a conversation with your father at the time of quarter to twelve, you hear the heavy footsteps that you recognise belong to your fathers hard capped hero suit heavy boots. As he approaches your room you can hear the subtle heavy breathes coming from his chest and out of his nostrils and mouth as he slowly opens your door, letting the hallways glow into your room, lighting it up more with its soft orangey yellow luminescence. "How come you're up, kiddo?" You hear your fathers deep voice say in a hushed tone, "how am i meant to sleep when all i can worry about is whether you come home or not? and I don't have a power so how can i fend my mother?" You ask in an anxious tone as you start to feel the wave of emotions wash over you and flooding in, your voice is quiet and starts to break at every sudden sentence. This makes your father take a seat on your bed next to you as he reaches his rough strong and large hand to cover your soft and small one as he used his thumb in a circular motion on your hand as he looks down at you with a soft smile you recognise, "how about the usual, that usually calms you down doesn't it?" You hear your father say in a strong manner as you look up and smile with a soft nod. "Yeah that'll help." You hear yourself saying without another thought.

The sudden loud bang takes Daniel out of his slumber as he jumps up to his siblings peeking through his door giggling at the sudden jump of their older brother, Daniel sleepily gets up from his bed and stand up, stretching as he does so as he then waves his much younger siblings to get out of his room, "come on you rats get out as i get dressed" Daniel says in a joking tone but his siblings giggles echo across the hallway as their many footsteps are heard as they run away from their brothers door. Now having the privacy, Daniel walks to his wardrobe and takes his uniform out for Sunset Hills Academy, the uniform consists of a plain white polo shirt with a grey jumper and dark grey pants, Daniel begins by taking his own pyjama shirt off slowly as he lets the cold air on his chest and stomach as he then looks at himself in a mirror where his white hair is stuck up and some strands of hair is pressed against his sweaty red face, after running a hand through his hair Daniel then looks at his own appearance noticing that his body wasn't in the shape he would like it to be, Daniel then goes to flex his muscles of his back which makes him a bit better that he still had the muscle he was known for in his previous school, but also a bit insecure that he had been binge eating since he left that school. Shaking the negative thought out of his head he then reaches for his plain white polo shirt and begins to put it over his head and button up the buttons as he checks himself out jokingly whilst doing so, he then pulled his pyjama shorts down and reaches for some plain black briefs as he puts them on and pulls them up he mistakes putting his leg in the wrong hole and ends up stumbling over backwards, "what a great start" he mumbles out angrily as he then sorts out so his leg is in the right hole this time, he then gathers himself up and sighs as he then carefully pulls his plain dark grey pants up as he's careful to not put his leg in the wrong hole this time. He then begins to pull his grey jumper with the logo of the school on which is a simple, yet attractive symbol would be a silhouette or sketch of the sun setting over the hills, with a simple, stylized text of the name of the school "Sunset Hills Academy" beneath the illustration. The sun setting behind the hills gives the logo a feeling of the passage of time and the start of something new.

Once Daniel was ready he then began to get his suitcases which he already packed the day before seeing as he will be staying at the dorms the school has, he then walked downstairs to be greeted by his mother who was placing his five younger siblings breakfasts on the table. "You ready honey?" a soft female voice, that belonged to his mother asked, "yeah i am ma, just about to leave" Daniel replied which got one of his siblings, Rio, to speak up "what does your school do Dan dan?" she asked in her high pitch voice as she looked at him like he was a god. Daniel looked back at her with his green eyes and smiled softly "well Ri you know how in your school you do things to get points? like practising your power?" Daniel said as he put his north face jacket on and he also slips on his trainers which were just rundown black plain ones. "Oh yes! i have fifty four points because we also gets points in pe whoever wins the most races!" Rio said in her excited voice as her legs bounced as she was very giddy as she looked at her brother who smiled awkwardly in response. "Yeah like that Ri, but there's harder challenges for points." Rio raised her eyebrow in response, eager to find out what these "hard challenges" are. Unfortunately to her she never found out since Daniel slipped on his shoes without an issue and headed out the door.
