Aiden's POV

The moon hung low in the sky, casting a pale glow over the city streets. I, the Alpha of the Moonclaw Pack, stalked silently through the shadows, my heightened senses on alert. Tonight was the night of his enemy's coronation—Eli, the soon-to-be Alpha of Shadowfang Pack. We both are the best packs in the world, however, instead of us to work together against every other pack and rogues to keep our packs safe, we are against each other. Even though we don't want to go to war against each other because it is uncertain who would win, it is advisable not to do it.

Eli was everything I despised—ambitious, passionate, and dangerously close to undermining my power. We aren't rivals only because of that, if not I would be considered petty, but that's not the reason. This guy is a pain in the ass. There are 2 main reasons I despise this guy, one is because his father killed my mother, which in turn is the reason my dad never looked at me the way he looked at me when my mother was alive. The other main reason is he is my mate, but he doesn't know that. This, unfortunately, is going to change tonight.

I am going to his coronation, where he will become alpha. Today is also his birthday. I shouldn't be here but I am forced to be here by my father. I don't even know why I call him father, I should just call him Jim, at this point.

"What are you think of, my alpha?" Harper, my beta and best friend asked. Harper has been my friend since I was a toddler. We have always been through everything together. Even though Harper is only 5 months older than me, he found his male mate and everything fell into place since his mate was in my pack. Which is the opposite of what is happening to me.

"Nothing," I said. I knew he could see right through me. "And I already told you to stop calling me alpha whenever my father is not close by".

"Alright Aiden, what the fuck is wrong with you, shithead? Is it because your mate is probably going to find out you are his mate and everything is going to go wrong?" He laughed. I forgot to mention, he is the only one that knows who my mate truly is. I just told everyone that I haven't found my mate which I have, but who cares.

"Not true. You can't say that, asshole. I hate you." He laughs at me and mimics me. As we get closer to the venue where my mate is being coronated, no one knows about me being carefree only this stoic, perfect gentleman. What no one knows excluding my best friend is that I am a virgin, which is crazy since everyone flings themselves at me. People say I'm hot, but I don't see it. I just look at myself and consider myself average.

We step out of the car and walk into the venue not without the paparazzi of our world shining the camera into our eyes. I hate crowded spaces but when I am around my best friend, he knows he should hold my hands or shoulders so that I could know that I am not the only one if not I am going to embarrass myself by having a panic attack, a shitshow to be exact, in front of everyone, which would result in my dad locking me in the dungeons for a week, if he is nice.
