"Tell me a bit about yourself and your family."

David watched how Sarah froze at hearing his words. Her eyes that were glued to her plate widened ever so slightly and her body tensed, making him frown.

Was she hiding something from him? But what?

She certainly wasn't sent by Shepherd to spy on him. She was living in her flat for three years. Way before he met Catherine or employed Shephered. So her past wasn't something that could possibly be related to him or could hurt him.

But had she been hurt?

"What do you want to know?" she asked a bit quietly while pushing the fruits in her plate around.

"Anything you are willing to tell me." he said while cutting his toast, trying not to show his eagerness in his voice or face.

"I'm not an interesting person." she smiled a bit, looking up at him. He could easily see sadness somewhere deep inside of her. "My life is boring."

"You are very interesting Miss. O'Conner." David stated firmly. Rolling his eyes playfully and trying to ease her a bit he continued. "Don't worry. I'm not going to use that info against you in the future."

To his surprise, her face saddened even more for a second as she kept staring at him before she schooled her expression and went back to eating her breakfast slowly.

"I was born and raised in Miami, living most of my life there before I moved here 3 years ago." she began after a minute. "My family could easily be categorized as rich. My father owned a small wine business that was going great. I had a very normal childhood. I went to school, went to parties with my friends, and everything a normal teenager usually does."

She smiled briefly, her eyes glazed over as if she was remembering a good memory. A ray of sun had passed through the window and had lit up a side of her face, giving her an angelic hue. She looked so ethereal and David sucked in a deep breath.

"I was accepted in University of Florida, majoring in Phycology." she continues. "I was in my second year when I met Brian. He was in his third year, majoring in business, and was the charming boy of uni. He had the looks, brain, and charm to be in the popular group. He approached me at a party and asked me to dance and from there our relationship started."

She shook her head and took a sip of her tea. "How naive and pathetic I was." she mumbled.

Without thinking, David leaned forward and lightly put his hand on top of hers, giving it a light squeeze. "Don't blame yourself." he said when she gazed into his eyes, seeming slightly startled by his sudden action but she didn't pull her hand away.

"People don't show their true faces most of the time." he said. "Most of us had faced the same thing. Just like me with Catherine."

Her heart ached at seeing the anger in his eyes and the clenching of his jaw at the mention of his ex. Taking a deep breath, she continues in the hope of distracting him.

"We dated for almost a year and a half." she spoke and his eyes snapped back to hers. "My family, especially my dad never liked him, but I fell for him, fooled by his charm and his show of kindness and love he was playing for me. He said he loved and I believed him."

"But he didn't?" he asked softly, not wanting to make her even more sad.

She shook her head. "No." she gave him a half smile as she played with Daisy's soft hair. "He acted as if he wanted more. He said he wanted us to proceed with our relationship, becoming more than a girlfriend and boyfriend. But he said he first needed a job, so he could support us in the future. He said it would be so good if he could work at my dad's company and asked me to talk with my dad, for our future. So I begged my dad, pestered him for two weeks until he finally gave in and let him start working in his company."
