Her mentor and father figure Alvin passed away and it broke Vanessa . The one person she could count on for anything was gone and she couldn't walk back into the district without tears streaming down her face so she made the decision to leave Chicago to get a fresh start
And that's where Vanessa found herself in New York City working for the FBI and Vanessa loved it ! She loved getting involved in cases from all around the US and more intense cases and it helped her get her mind off of things . But after 3 years Vanessa knew she needed to go back home to Chicago
Chicago was her home . She was born and raised there and as much as she loved NYC her heart belonged back home she needed to be in the presence of her brothers and friends .
