little dark age
forgiving who you are,
for what you stand to gain.
just know that if you hide,
it doesn't go away.

ANASTASIA SHUFFLED FRANTICALLY THROUGH HER NOTES, HOPING TO FIND SOMETHING SHE MISSED. After being told she wasn't able to change her house, she'd finished her first day of classes and immediately run to the library, attempting to find even just one case where someone has successfully changed their house, but to no avail. She knew it was a long shot to begin with, and she'd be better off accepting it, but she wanted to at least try before she gave in.

Slamming her book shut, she sighed heavily, running her hands over her face. As she glanced out the window, she was both surprised and ashamed to see the orange glow of the rising sun. She'd spent many nights on her research, but none of which she'd worked straight through.

From the bed beside her, Pandora stirred, rolling over to face her. "Anastasia... please..." She mumbled, her eyes still closed. "Shut up."

"It's morning, anyway, Pandora." Anastasia replied quietly, trying to stay as silent as she can as she packed her books away and gathered her uniform, tucking it under her arm. "We have to get up soon."

"Wonderful." Pandora rolled over and began to snore.

She looked in the mirror, shocked at the face staring back at her. After all, she was a Black, and being well kept had been drilled into her since the day she was born. Heavy bags sat under her eyes, and her usually voluminous blonde hair perfectly styled on her shoulders was replaced by a tangle of limp locks.

She frowned. I look a mess, she thought.

She half-heartedly began to get herself ready, dragging a hairbrush through her hair, tying it back with a simple updo that she secured with a blue ribbon. The irony of first ribbon she pulled out of her bag being blue is not lost on her.

Satisfied, she quietly tip-toed out of her dormitory and into the empty common room. No one would be down for another half hour at least, and Pandora would be at least an hour. She settled into the cozy couch by the fire, continuing to read.

The all-nighter seemed to catch up with her though, and within minutes the book had slipped straight through her hands, landing on her lap. Her eyes dropped shut as sleep forcibly overtook her.

She was awoken by the feeling of the book being taken out of her hold. She stirred, opening her eyes and blinking softly to adjust to the light. "Pandora... what... what's going on?" She asked sleepily, still blinking as the rest of the morning comes back to her brain.

Pandora tucked the book away in her bag. "Come on," She said, gently guiding her up. "No more of this researching business, you've been at this all week. You're a Ravenclaw, it's no use trying to change that."
