Jae-Hyuk was the first to realize Jungkook was awake. He exclaimed with excitement, "Kookie, are you awake? "I am your little uncle..." The rest of the Kim family did not dare to breathe too loudly and looked at Jungkook nervously.
Jungkook's mind was blank. "Little Uncle?" His pale face remained expressionless, like a delicate porcelain doll. Although he said 'Little Uncle...' as a question, it was more of a repetition of his words than a genuine question.
Old Master Kim pressed his lips together in a straight line. Jungkook was too thin; lying on the hospital bed, he was just a small bundle. Old Master Kim's heart ached so badly that he could not breathe. His baby....
Jae-Hyuk softened his voice and said slowly, "Yes, Kookie, I am your mother's older brother. I am Jae-Hyuk. You have called me before. Do you remember?"
Jungkook's eyelashes trembled before he made a sound. He remembered that he had called. He called his little uncle, but did not they ignore and reject him?
Jungkook took a while to process the situation before slowly lifting his head. "Are you guys here to pick me up?"
The men in the Kim family all nodded furiously, and Kim Joon Lee stepped forward and told Jungkook, "Kookie, I am your third uncle, Kim Joon Lee. We are here to take you home."
Old Master Kim's throat appeared to be blocked. He was afraid he would choke as soon as he opened his mouth. He took some time to recover before responding, "Yes, we are here to bring Kookie home. Nobody can bully you in the future. By the way, I am your grandfather, your mother's father."
Jungkook's eyes moved. Go home? Did he still own a home? Would they abandon him after taking him home? Would they beat, scold, and deny him food?
The men of the Kim family were concerned that Jungkook would remain silent. They had no prior experience raising children, so they looked to Taehyung and Joo Chan Yang. Taehyung, the eldest son, and his best friend, Joo Chan Yang, were both 29 years old, with Yang having two children.
However, Taehyung lacked experience coaxing children. After observing Jungkook for a while, he finally said, "Kookie, what are you concerned about?" His voice was as cold as usual, and despite his best efforts to soften it, it remained cold and serious. The rest of the Kim family glared at him, afraid he would scare Jungkook.
Joochan Yang coughed. He was a quiet person who wanted to say something but was unable to do so for an extended period of time. He scratched his ears and cheeks out of anxiety.
Jae-Hyuk sighed. It was still up to him! He bent down and leaned closer to Jungkook, stroking his head affectionately: "Kookie, tell Little Uncle what you are thinking."
Jungkook moved his eyes and raised his head, struggling to look at the man who called himself his little uncle. That day, he believed he was going to die. The darkness was gradually swallowing him. It was this man's voice that broke through the darkness and brought him a ray of hope. He asked hesitantly, "Little Uncle, if Kookie goes home, can I eat?"
Everyone was stunned for a brief moment when they heard that. Can he eat? What type of question was this? Before the Kims could react, Jungkook said softly, "Will you people hit me?"
These two short sentences irritated Old Master Kim's eyes and nearly caused him to cry! His precious grandson was afraid he would be denied food and punished! What kind of life had he been leading with the Zhu family all these years? He did not have enough food or clothing, and he was being abused?!
Old Master Kim could not help but turn around, his lips trembling as he tried to hold back tears, his eyes red. The other Kim brothers clenched their fists in rage, but were afraid that their twisted expressions would scare Jungkook, so they all forcefully suppressed their rage.
Jae-Hyuk took Jungkook's hand and gently placed it on his face, saying in a hoarse voice, "Kookie, you can eat anything you want when we get home." Nobody will hit you. Look, this is the eldest uncle, the second uncle, and the third uncle... They are all extremely powerful. We will protect Kookie. Nobody can hurt Kookie again."
Jungkook's small hands held the blanket tightly. He did not speak for a long time. Just as the Kim family thought he would not say anything else, he spoke up: "Little Uncle, Kookie did not push anyone." Daddy and Grandpa asked me to admit my mistake, but I refused. "I did not push anyone," he said stubbornly. His pale face had a stubborn expression, and his eyes were dark.
He was not sure if his uncles liked him or if they would be disappointed when they discovered that he refused to admit his mistake and decided not to bring him home. He refused to admit wrongdoing, even if it meant being abandoned and not returning home.
