Her family was expecting a lot. Maybe too much of her. Her three big brothers seemed perfect compared to her: classy, rich, single, handsome. She was a wild little girl: running everywhere, making pranks, being loud. What everyone was waiting from her is that she would calm down over the years and be more like her siblings.

She was running in the forest behind her mansion. When she arrived to the big wall she unfolded her wings and in one movement she was over it, flying on the other side.

She landed on the floor and swiftly moved between the trees. Soon she heard the water of the river and jumped over it.

"Be careful Heylee... you need to be pretty and presentable!"
She repeated the words of her mother with hatred.

"Be careful Heylee... you can't be like that! It's not woman-like"
She scoffed her red eyes scanning the area as she slowed down. She was already far from the house now.

She folds her big red wings and look around before jumping in the tree. She perched herself in a tree and enjoyed the peace of the night.

She heard a loud crack and immediately looked around. She was not going to let her brothers catch her once again.

The night wasn't helping her, the forest either: it was so dense the moonlight was barely coming through.

She started to move. She jumped from tree to tree with swift movements. Her tail was helping her to keep her balance on the moving branches.

Her ears perked up when she heard another branche moving.
She stopped and wrapped her tail around the tree not to fall. She looked around and sighed.

You're probably being paranoid.

She spots the large grass field where she used to play as a kid and knew she had to continue. She gets down, back on the ground, and look around one last time. The moonlight was finally shining through.

She starts to run once again, to the opposite side of the huge field. The night was calm and the field was not as pretty as during the day.
During the day the field was full of pretty and colourful flowers. And tonight it was just green and dark.
This dreamy place almost looked sorrow this night.

She went through it, carefully lowering herself. She never went on the other side of the field. Her mother strictly reminded her how dangerous the others were. Hell didn't seemed like a bad place. Not during the day. At night the shadows were coming out.

The shadows were there to torture any soul crossing their path. They were dangerous and too strong for Heylee yet. She was too young. At 10 nobody would be able to fight them.

She take a deep breath before going inside the forest. Her sense were sharp, ready to react to anything. She walked carefully, not doing any noises.

Nobody was around, the werewolves were transforming only in full moons, shapeshifters were not the most dangerous being, and she did not cross and shadow yet. Hell was being very calm tonight.

But that didn't last. After an hour or two maybe, she didn't know, the sudden smell of blood filled her nostrils and her eyes shot wide when she saw a girl, down next to a deer. A dead deer, stained with blood and open, exposing the organs of the animals.

The girl froze and stared at the scene. A vampire... she forgot about them...

She didn't move, maybe the person didn't see her yet... yes that's it. She's not in danger.

Heylee was almost holding her breath, almost being a part of the tree she was against. She was scared. Her, ten years, alone in the dark forest filled with monsters, was facing one of them.

The girl didn't seem to notice her. Not yet. She was feeding, sucking the blood from the already dead animal.

When the girl finished, she took her own sleeve to wipe the blood off her mouth. Her red eyes were almost shining through the night. Heylee would stare into them. She would notice something after a few seconds, she wasn't the only one staring. The girl was glaring at her, it seemed like she was going to kill her next.

Heylee felt that cold feeling going down her spine and gulped. She didn't want to take her little red eyes off of her. She was scared the girl would disappear in a blink, scared that she planned to kill her. Everyone knew vampire needed blood to live, but she was not ready to give hers.

She heard vampire bites were hurting, that they were the worst pain, right after being burn alive. Those were rumours, but nobody was still here to talk about it.

Heylee and the vampire stayed frozen for a few moments before the girl gets up and start to walk in her direction.

What should I do?

Will she kill me?

Is she dangerous?

Is she a threat to me?

Should I run?

Too much questions with no answers...

Her heartbeat increased as the girl was finally in front of her. She was taller. Now she could see her long black hair, her red eyes, her pale skin covered in blood... she was scared, but strangely not as much as before. The vampire looked at her with a certain sweetness.

The long fangs looked menacing but not her eyes. They didn't seem like the reflection of blood and violence anymore, they seemed like a sweet and delicate rose.
