The Seoul Mansion of Kim's,
Yeonjun returned home half an hour later. As he entered the living room, he noticed Y/N sprawled on the sofa, engrossed in a book. Sensing his presence, Y/N lowered the book and glanced at him. She sighed internally, guessing that once again, Yeonjun had been rejected by Soobin, just as he had been for the past few months. Trying to refocus on her studies, she continued reading, knowing that she had an exam later that day. Y/N had convinced herself that lying half-reclined on the sofa was the only way she could concentrate, especially on her medical textbooks, which felt like endless, tedious memorization.
Feeling frustrated, she put the book aside. Her mind heavy with thoughts, she headed to the kitchen, deciding that a cup of tea might help clear her head. Her mother, had she been there, would have brought her tea without her asking. But since her mother's absence for over a year, Y/N had learned to handle everything herself.
With two cups of tea in hand, Y/N first went to her father's room. The door was open, and she quietly offered him a cup. Her father, Daehyung, was deep in thought about an upcoming meeting. As the mayor's term neared its end, he was determined to ensure that the city's leadership remained in trustworthy hands. Noticing his daughter, Daehyung smiled and said, "Why aren't you studying, Y/N?"
"What's the point?" she responded playfully, but with a hidden depth. "Even if I become a doctor, what difference will it make?"
Daehyung sighed, understanding her underlying pain. "Not every emptiness can be filled, Y/N. But life becomes beautiful when you learn to accept it, even the harshest parts."
Y/N nodded lightly, though her thoughts soon shifted to her brother, Yeonjun. "I've made coffee for oppa too. It's getting cold, and he'll blame me for it." She quickly exited the room, heading to her brother's.
In his room, Yeonjun lay on the bed, face down. She placed the coffee cup beside him and teased, "Failed in love again?"
His immediate reaction was one of anger, "Get out." Y/N, slightly shaken, muttered, "I had to say it; otherwise, you wouldn't respond."
She left, knowing her brother's frustration stemmed from his unrequited love for Soobin. Over time, Y/N had learned to maintain her distance from him, understanding the depth of his feelings for someone else. Yet, deep inside, she longed for Yeonjun's happiness, wishing Soobin would love him back.
As Y/N prepared to leave for her medical class, she noticed Yeonjun waiting by the car. Surprised by his sudden offer to drop her off, she hesitated. He had never offered to take her anywhere before. Playfully, he said, "Come on, Y/N. Don't let my promotion dreams fade away. Get in."
Though tempted, Y/N refused, adding humor to mask her mixed emotions, "I can't. My boyfriend wouldn't like it, and I don't want to lose my doctor-to-be husband."
With that, she rushed to the gate and found a cab, preferring her simple, quiet life over the complexities of Yeonjun's. However, the sadness of seeing Yeonjun pine for someone he couldn't have still weighed heavily on her heart.
