Chapter eighteen: confusion

Lux's POV:

Regina actually picked me up with her expensive car and I awkwardly sat on the passenger seat, while she was driving me to her mansion.

"Do you want to talk about what happened?", Regina asked and her tone was kind and soft.

"Janis choked my friend and she thinks she didn't do anything wrong...", I said and she sighed.

"That's typical for her. She will always claim it was necessary to protect you but in reality she just wants to scare people away from you so she has you all to herself", she said and I looked down.

"I understand that now...", I said and I almost flinched when she put her hand on my knee.

"I get that you had your doubts about my words. I wasn't acting trustworthy towards you either", she said with guilt in her voice and I looked into her eyes.

"At least you apologized", I said and she smiled softly.

"I promise I will make it up to you. I will keep you safe from Janis because she will go completely crazy when you end things with her and I will do everything I can to fix your reputation on social media", she said and I nodded.

"Janis is actually my biggest concern right now... God... I can't believe that I'm so afraid of her", I said and put my hands on my face.

I couldn't hold my tears back any longer and cried my heart out. Janis was my first love... It hurt so bad that I had to leave her.

"Shhh it's okay. Trust me, you would've started to hate her at some point, if you stayed with her", Regina said to comfort me and she was probably right.

I already felt so drained because of her, it only would've gotten worse over time.

When we finally arrived at her mansion, she immediately hugged me as soon as I got out of the car.

"You made the right choice by coming to me. I might be one of the few people, who can handle Janis", she whispered and her hug actually felt warm and comforting.

She had such an untouchable aura around her when I first met her and yet her arms were so welcoming.

She put her arm around me and walked me inside the house.

"Regina you're back! And you brought Lux with you! Don't worry sweety you can stay here for as long as you like", her mom immediately said and rubbed my arm.

"Mom, make her a tea", Regina demanded and her mom immediately disappeared into the kitchen.

"Come on, you must be exhausted", Regina said and pulled me with her to a guest room.

"I would let you stay in my room but you probably need space so you can stay here. My room is right across from yours though so you can always come to me when you need something", she said and I nodded while sitting down on the bed.

Regina sat down next to me and ran her hand through my hair.

"I want you to be completely comfortable so don't be shy to tell me what you need", she said softly and I couldn't believe that I actually felt safe with her.

She acted completely different than before.

After a while, her mom walked into the room and gave me a cup of tea.

"This tea will calm your stomach", her mom said and smiled softly.

"So, do you want me to stay or do you need rest?", Regina asked.

"I think we should both rest. It's late and we have school tomorrow", I said and she nodded while standing up.

"We don't have to go to school tomorrow by the way. It's okay, if you're not ready to face Janis and want to skip", she said and I sighed.
