Thunderous lightning crashed outside the small cabin far in the woods. A little girl with bright golden hair squealed from beneath her covers. Her bright blue eyes squeezed shut in fear. The small sheet did nothing to block the light and was even less effective against the cold wind, her cotton nightgown the only comfort in the night. Her window had broken hours ago but she hadn't tried to get up.
How could she when glass littered the floor and blocked her path out and her shoes were by the front door. No, she would just wait for her parents to come home. Building King Hector's latest statue was too big a project to take a sick ten-year-old with them. They were supposed to be back before the sun set, but the storm had blocked the sky too soon for her to tell when the sun had actually set.
Another bout of lightning struck and the girl squealed again before sobbing into her stuffed jaquin. It wasn't like her parents to be this late. Where on earth were they? She wanted her parents so bad. Her mom could wipe her nose and her dad would try and chase her fears away with a funny dance.
She wanted them to come home...
