A life of a simple teen is going perfect, they go to church and pray often. No one in their town gets bullied, no crimes happen, everything is... Perfect....Until, the new family came to town. The daughter does not wear dresses, the son loves makeup and most different of all... There was not a dad, but two moms. Everyone avoided them. No one likes them, many tried to change them, screamed at them, hated them. All because they were....Them. Now, meet Kasey. She's the most respectful and religious of everyone yet loved the new family. More importantly, she loved the daughter of the family.
Kasey rushed home after school one day, not stopping, not even for a rest. As she hurried in her room, she noticed how plain and solid color it was. She wanted to be like the family so she calmed down, changed and went across the street when no one was outside and knocked.
"Hello? Is anyone home?" Kasey said and then heard footsteps heading her wayAs the door opened, there stood the son, rainbow makeup, black crop top, tight jeans and many accessories.
"No we don't need god. No we do not want to go to the church. No we do not want you to pray for us. And no, we don't want to change-"
Kasey shook her head and said "Um actually no, I was wondering if your sister is home... I would like get to know her, maybe even befriend her!" Kasey said with joy in her voice and excitement in her eyes
The son then blinked a quickly a few times, processing this and moved to let her in, closing the door behind him.
"I'm Caleb, my blonde mom is Janet and my other mom is Rose. My sister is Riley" Caleb said, a smile on his face.
"It is pleasure to meet you Caleb" Kasey said happily as she sat on the soft, black wool couch.
After a little while, Riley came home, surprised to see Kasey but didn't care and attempted to walk away before being stopped by Rose.
"Welcome home darling! This wonderful girl from your school came over, asking to get to know you! Maybe you two can become great friends!" Janet said cheerfully, gesturing to Kasey."Hello, I'm Kasey, your brother told me your name is Riley correct? I love your name" Kasey said, attempting to shake hands with Riley but Riley does not accept so she lowers her hand.
"Oh...hi....? Aren't you in my math and art classes?" Riley said with clear hesitation, not trusting Kasey's intentions.
"Yes! I am, I noticed you're actually great at art, which is really cool!" Kasey said, a little too excitedly, making Riley glare at her with suspicion.
Kasey then slightly took a step back to give Riley space as Riley turns away and head upstairs without another word. As the street lights came on, Kasey left and thanked the family for having her over and heads home quickly.
Kasey then makes her way upstairs and hears her father and mother pull up and hurries to change and comes down as they are hanging their coats and they turn, her father upset and her mother worried. Kasey then, deciding to give them space, sits in the chair by the back door, slightly further from the other chairs and holds hands with her mother and father before her mother begins the prayer."Dear Lord and Savior, we thank you for the food, our wonderful town, the wonderful people of our town and this wonderful life. May you guide us down the path of truth and blessings, and may you help us keep our daughter from becoming like the family across the street. And keep her true to God. Amen" As the mother finishes speaking, they release hands and begin to put food on their plates.
"Kasey, have you noticed the camera's we set at the front door?" Kasey's father, Jacob, asked, looking at her stirnly.
"No, but I'm sure they are wonderful to have up to prevent anything from happening such as critters from entering the house". Kasey said, refusing eye contact.
"They sure are, especially since they thankfully alerted us when you left the house and went to... That families home" Marianne, Kasey's mother, states.
Kasey, now feeling oddly nervous tries to make eye contact but can not handle the pressuring glares.
Kasey then says in slightly protest "They are quite nice and are quite respectful".
"That does not matter!" Her father shouts, slamming a fist on the table. "We are people of God, they are people of the Devil!"
"I heard the daughter hates dresses and once burned a country flag just because she did not like it's main religion. And that the son acts like a woman!" Her mother says, backing up Jacob."...femboy..." Kasey whispers softly.
"Excuse me?" Her father says demandingly.
"He's called..a...femboy...The term refers to boys whom like to dress in a feminine style...-"Marianne gasps in disgust. "HOW DARE THEY TEACH MY DAUGHTER SUCH A DISGUSTING TERM!" Say gasts in disbelief.
"...I think it's... unique..."Kasey says, now slumped and her head hung low.
"That's the problem! They are too different! And two mothers!? No wonder that boy doesn't know how to be a man!" Jacob says, throwing up is arms in disbelief.
"Actually he had a dad but he was...not accepting and so he was taken for his own safety...and then Rose and Janet took him in two weeks after being legally married..." Kasey said, a tone of pride in her voice."That poor boy! He must be helped!" Marianne mutters softly with a sense of pitty.
Kasey then looks up "How come? He's happy now, he's loved for who he is and is not being harmed by his care givers for being himself...!" She says in protest.
"I heard of something called 'conversion therapy', have those two freaks send him there and he'll be fixed in no time-"
"W-what! You support that stuff father? But they verbally abuse people to force change and religion! They-!" Kasey starts to argue but is silenced by her mother."Watch your voice's volume! Do you know why we are a perfect town? Want to know why? We are all the same, that is why! We don't throw pity parties for sinners-" Marianne says and is shouted at by Kasey.
"They are not sinners! They are just themselves!" Kasey yells and runs to her room, disgusted by her parents. After a week of silence, Marianne offers to take Kasey on a drive around town. The car is silent. The road is dead empty, the birds are not singing and the churches bell rings as they drive past. After what feels like hours, they pull up to a white building and Kasey cannot read the sign due to being under it but follows Marianne anyway. As they head up to a desk, Marianne states her full name and a worker brings them to an elevator and gets in with them, pressing the button for the fifth floor. As the elevator rises slowly, soft jazz playing, Kasey looked around at the elevator walls, covered in verses from the Bible and crosses. When the elevator reached the fifth floor, the man brought them to a room with a name plate saying "Doctor Jameson, Room 409". After Kasey stepped in, Marianne thanked the worker and walked in, closing the door behind her.
"Ah yes, Marianne, welcome, take a seat. Ah ha, you must be Kasey, you've grown since I saw you last" the man said as Kasey analyzed him. He had on a lab coat with a blue shirt under, dark brown slacks,a black buckled belt, a short white beard an slick back white hair.
"Oh? When did you last see me?" Kasey asked, quite intrigued.
"When you were just born, and when you were seven. I'm surprised you don't remember me, I was the one who gave you your first Holy Bible" the man said, his voice calm and slightly raspy."I don't remember, hm. I must have been too happy to take time to look at your face" Kasey said, secretly not believing him.
"Now, moving on. I heard from your mother that you were at the new families home. How come?" He asked.
"I wanted to get to know them so I seized my moment of opportunity and went to meet them. They are kind and respectful and they were very welcoming". Kasey said in defense."Now now, people like them seem that way, but they actually are not. You need to be more careful around people like them or else you may be pulled into a web of sin and deception." The man said as he stood and looked out the window, arms behind his back. "And I think I know just what do to to fix you...forever"
