I open the door. A part of me expects my mom and dad to come and give me a hug. Instead Claire greets me with a hug. "I haven't gone through any of their stuff yet. I wanted to wait for you," said Claire.
"Thanks, let's get to it I guess," I said. Claire grabs my hand and leads me into the living room. We start going through the stuff in that room. Splitting some of the stuff and giving others away.
"We should head to their room," said Claire. I nod. The two of us head to their room. The first thing I see when I open the door is my mom 's wedding dress. I grab the dress.
"Do you think we should keep the dress? We have both already worn it,"I said.
"Yeah we should. Maybe a daughter or daughter in law will want to wear it. Mom can be there in spirit," I said and nodded. We put the dress on their bed.
"Chloe, look at this," said Claire. I look up and see dads green shirt.
"Dad wore this when we were born," said Claire. I nod trying not to cry.
"Yeah he did. He wore it every one of our birthdays. What should we do with it," I said.
"Do you mind if I keep it," asked Claire.
"No you should have it," I said. Claire folds it and puts it in a box. We keep going through things till I find my summer dress.
"Mama wore that all the time. It was her favorite summer dress. You should keep it Chole. It will look beautiful on you," said Claire.
"Do you think so," I asked.
"Yeah you and mom are twins," said Claire. Claire is right about that. I have red hair and green eyes just like mom. I also have her freckles. Claire has dark brown hair and eyes. Her hair is also curly like his. I nod and put it in a box for me. We keep separating things into three different boxes. Claire, Me and donation.
"What that box up there Claire," I asked. Claire grabs at the box.
"Hmm I don't know," said Claire. She takes the box to the bed. I opened the box. "Our first Halloween costume," said Claire. Claire was a bee and I was a lady bug. We take out the costumes and see a bunch of photos.
"Look, it's the day we were born," I said. Dad is sitting with us in a hospital chair with a huge smile on his face. We put the photo on the bed and keep looking.
"Dad was so young," said Claire. I smile and start laughing.
"Look how happy and healthy he was," I said.
"We broke him," said Claire, joining in my laughter. We see a photo of mom as a teenager leaning against a tree.
"Look how pretty she was," I said.
"A stunner," said Claire.
"I get why dad literally feels at her feet," I said. Claire laughs. When we were five we made dad tell us the story of how he met mom. He was staring at her and didn't notice a stump. He fell at her feet. Mom laughed and he knew that she was it for him.
The next photo was Claire and I cuddling as babies. "We were so snuggly when we were kids," said claire.
"Yeah mom says we used to scream when we were pulled apart," I said.
"Yes they loved to bring that to us when we fought as teens," said Claire.
"Yeah she did. Mom hated it when we fought. Even though dad says she used to fight with her sister," I said.
"Yep we would call mom a hypocrite for not wanting us to fight," said Claire. She puts the photo down and I grab another photo. It is a photo of us smiling next to dad buried under the sand.
"Why did we always barry dad," I asked. Claire laughs.
"I have no clue," said Claire. I put the photo down. I see a camera.
"Its mom's camera she used to take all of these photos," I said. Clarie starts to cry.
"Clarie," I said.
"I want mom. I want dad. I just want this nightmare over Chloe. I want our parents back. I want that asshole dead and our parents back. He should be dead, he is the one who decided to drive drunk. This isn't fair," said claire. I hugged her. "This isn't fair," wispired claire.
"I know it isn't but we have to try to be strong," I said. Claire nods trying to stop crying.
"Let's just get through this," said Claire. We get back to sorthing everything out. Once done with that we sit back down on the bed to go through the photo. There are only a couple left. The first three were more vacation photos.
"Look at this one," I said. I show it to claire. It's a photo of the four of us on the bed laughing.
"Look how happy we are. We should have apartheid those moments more," said Claire.
"We should have treated them better," I said.
"Yeah expectly in high school. Do you remember how horrible we were to them," said Claire.
"Yep do you remember when you lied saying you were going to julies hour but actually went to hook up with max connor. They were so angry that you lied," I said. I laugh.
"I responded with how am I going to have secrets if I can't lie," said Clare.
"They didn't even respond at first and when they did it was to just get out of there face," I said.
"How can you respond to that? I honestly think I was right. I mean how are you meant to have secrets if I'm not allowed to lie," said Claire.
"You could have just told them you were going out with a friend. They would have let you," I said.
"True but that would have been a lie. Max was not my friend. I didn't even like him that much. I just liked having fun with him," said Clarie. She winks at the fun part.
"Eww Claire," I said. Claire laughs. "Mom and dad would not want to hear that part," I said.
"No," said claire. Clarie turns over the last photo. It was an early photo of mom and dad together. "They're so young," Claire said.
"Yeah they had a whole life before us. It's funny to think about. One day min and your kids are going to look at photos of us young and don't believe that we had a laugh before then," I said.
"Chloe," said Claire.
"Yeah," I said.
"I'm pregnant," said Claire.
