"If three's a crowd and two was us, one slipped away"...

Billie Pov

It was officially Christmas Eve, and although I had promised my family that I would be there to follow through on our Christmas Eve traditions, I had to make a stop.

With a few gifts in hand and a bouquet, I found myself feeling more nervous than usual. Typically, in times like this, I'm the confident one, but I guess she just has that emotional effect on me.

I knocked on the door, my heart pounding with anticipation. When Dani opened the door, clad in her Christmas pajamas, her surprise was evident in her expression.

"Who is— What are you doing here?" she asked, her eyes widening in astonishment at my unexpected arrival. She must've just had her hair done because her knotless braids were flawlessly swept to the side, with boho pieces of hair dancing in the LA breeze. Her lips, full and plump, glistened with lip gloss, beckoning me with an irresistible allure. I couldn't help but imagine tasting that gloss until my lips felt the same sensation. Her deep, dark brown eyes were mesmerizing, perfectly complementing her complexion, which was just a shade darker. The choice of lash extensions she wore accentuated her eyes, drawing me in with their magnetic charm.

Her physique was so hard to not admire, something you see on girls on Instagram or models. Clothed in her pajamas, she exuded an effortless beauty that left me captivated. It seemed she had gained a bit more weight, but every curve only enhanced her allure. She appeared more mature, embodying the essence of a woman who had come into her own since our college days. Caught in my reverie, I found myself momentarily lost in admiration until her voice brought me back to reality.

"You gonna answer me or you gonna keep staring at me?" she asked, a hint of confusion in her tone, snapping me out of my trance.

"Sorry sorry, I jus-"

"BB!" Chloe runs to me with her arms out, and I immediately swoop down to pick her up.

Dani and I had been together since freshman year of college, but we were 18 then; now, we're 26. Once we graduated and stepped into the world, we began building our careers. Dani majored in accounting, and she was thrilled when her hard work paid off with a six-figure job managing the finances of big celebrities. As for me, I pursued music, slowly but steadily making a name for myself in the industry. Then, a year or two into living together, we welcomed Chloe into our lives. Everything was perfect—more than perfect; it was great. I was happy, my career was flourishing, and I had my family. I even proposed, believing that our happiness would only grow. But that's when everything started going downhill.

It felt like no matter what we did, nothing was ever right. So, I decided to end it. I didn't want Chloe to grow up in a home where she constantly witnessed her parents arguing. However, I didn't anticipate just how much I would regret that decision. It's only been three months since we separated, and Dani's already in another relationship with someone named Adri. Seeing them together hurts, but I try to keep it together for Chloe's sake. Deep down, though, I'd do anything to get my girls back.

"Hi, baby girl," I say giving Chloe a big hug and kisses all over her face.

"Santa coming! Santa coming!" Chloe exclaims, jumping into my arms. At just 2 years old, she speaks so well. Seeing her happy like this fills me with joy; it's all I want for her.

"That's right, baby... Santa wanted me to give this to you." I set Chloe down and brought a big box into the house.

"Can I open, please?" Chloe pleads, flashing her teeth as she grabs onto the box, jumping up and down.
