Chapter 48: Justice Served

URIEL'S POV

WE already have a suspect. Further investigation is on-going.

An unknown number texted me three days after I made the request to Dad. He really keeps his word. No wonder a lot of businessmen trust him in matters like this.

I filed an indefinite leave of absence in our company. Lately, I just want to lie down and sleep. Kahit kagigising ko pa lang, I feel tired. I'll wake up to eat, watch a little, and then sleep again. Sometimes Brent will visit para siguro i-check if I'm still alive and didn't do anything to harm myself.

I'm too lazy to do anything. Before, I used to shower everyday but now every other day na lang. Hindi na rin ako nagji-gym. I always order fast food take-outs. Kahit magpadala si Ma ng lutong-bahay, I'm too lazy to even put it in the microwave. Siguro if eating is not that essential in our lives, katatamaran ko na rin kumain.

"Uriel? Uriel!"

I heard someone calling my name but I'm too tired to open my eyes.

"URIEL!" That someone slapped my arms but I won't budge. Nanghihina talaga ako so I'll just lie here on the sofa and sleep.

"Uriel! Gumising ka!" I felt someone raise me from lying down. "Uriel! Si Brent 'to! Idilat mo 'yong mga mata mo."

I half-opened my eyes and saw Brent's worried face.

"Uriel? Bakit hindi ka kumakain? 'Yong iniiwan kong pagkain sa mesa, ni hindi man lang nagagalaw! Uriel!" He forced my eyes to open using his fingers. "Hello? Dalawang araw ka nang hindi kumakain!"

It has been two days since I received that message? Akala ko ilang oras pa lang.

"Diyan ka lang, 'wag kang hihiga ulit. Iinitin ko 'tong dala kong pagkain. Sinasabi ko talaga sa'yo kapag humiga ka, lagot ka sa'kin!"

Brent sounds like a mother. I chuckled as my eyes adjusted to the brightness of the room. I rarely open the lights nowadays since lagi naman akong tulog.

Brent came back and sat on the floor. He opened a big insulated bag and brought out a lot of food.

"Galing ako sa inyo kasi kinontact ako ni Tita Leah. Tinatanong kung nakakakain ka raw ba ng maayos," he opened some of the containers. "Sabi ko na lang oo para 'di na mag-alala sa'yo. Tapos ganito ang dadatnan ko? 'Di ka kumakain ng maayos? Buti na lang talaga may tiwala sa'kin si Tita Leah."

Kumuha siya ng slice ng apple galing sa isa sa mga containers at in-offer sa'kin. "Kainin mo 'yan."

He stood up and went to the kitchen again. I bit a little of the apple slice and felt full.

"Tara kain na tayooo," he said in a sing-song voice and put what he heated on the coffee table. He also brought out paper plates and plastic spoon and fork from the insulated bag. "Ayan, para 'di na maghugas."

He put a small amount of rice and a piece of fried chicken on my plate. "Kain na Uriel," he then started eating.

"I'm still full," I told him.

"Pa'no ka mabubusog? Wala kang kinain for two days tapos parang langgam ang kumagat diyan sa apple!" Nag-attempt siyang subuan ako but I refused.

He looks upset. "Ano bang gusto mong gawin sa buhay, Uriel?"

"Nothing. I want to lie down and sleep," hihiga na sana ako but he caught me.

"Uriel, please gusto ko lang naman na kumain ka eh! Hindi matutuwa si Jackie kapag nakita ka niyang ganito!"

I got irritated so I pushed him. "Don't use Jackie's name para pilitin ako na gawin ang mga bagay na ayokong gawin!"

"Ano ba?! Gusto lang naman kitang pakainin pero bakit galit ka pa sa'kin? Sa ginagawa mong 'to parang gusto mo nang sumunod sa kanya eh!"
