Shane and Dean spent most of the morning in the diner. Talking about the most random things. Dean would tell stories about old hunts with Sam, stories about Bobby, and random tips about hunting. When it got to be closer to noon, Dean and Shane decided to head back.

"It's weird for research to take this long. Usually Sam's found something by now. And with Bobby's help...," Dean trailed off as they drove back to Bobby's house.

"Maybe they found something and just forgot to call?"

"Maybe. Either way, I'm sure everything's fine."

They arrived back at the house not long after, Sam still in the living room, but this time, everything felt different. The hair on the back of Shane's neck stood on end before she even entered the living room.

"Did you guys find anything yet?" Dean asked, taking a seat on the nearby couch.

"It's complicated. Bobby was mumbling about something, but I'm not sure where he went."

Bobby appeared in the entrance to the living room. He seemed... angry? Or was it fear Shane saw in his eyes? She couldn't tell.

"Hey, Bobby. Did you find anything?" Dean send again.

Bobby took a few steps into the room, "yeah. I found something." Before Dean could ask what, Bobby had pulled out a pistol and aimed it at Shane's head. He had a cold look in his eyes, a mixture of fear, hatred, and anger across his face.

Dean and Sam leapt to their feet and put their hands up in a defensive manner as Dean slowly moved toward Shane, "Bobby, put the gun down. What's going on?"

"I had my suspicions when you first got here as to what you were, but I'm convinced now," Bobby stated calmly, his gun firmly trained on Shane, who was entirely paralyzed by fear.

"What the hell are you talking about, Bobby? Put the gun down," Dean insisted.

"No," Bobby urged, "She's not human. I know it."

"Bobby," Sam cooly spoke, "why don't you explain what's going on?"

"She's a Blood Sear."

"A what!?" Dean whisper shouted.

"Half human, half something else. It's unclear what the other half usually is. Could be a demon, shapeshifter, anything. They're terrible creatures. Hell bent of finding and killing demons. And whatever, usually hunters, gets in their way."

"Bobby, why don't you put the gun down and we'll talk about this," Sam tried to soothe Bobby's obvious wrath.

"You idjits don't understand. This," he gestured to Shane, "is a killer. These creatures can go centuries before they wake up, but when they wake up they're vicious. Evil. They will stop at nothing to reach their goal of murdering whatever demon they find!"

"Ok, and I don't see why that's a problem, Bobby," Dean remarked as he moved to stand nearly in front of Shane.

"Because demons hate them. Demons are terrified of them, they find out one exists, they find out where it is, and they won't stop until it's dead."

"But how is that even possible? I'm... I'm human. I can't be anything else! I'm completely normal! And what do to mean 'wake up?'" Shane mumbled, tears pricking her eyes.

"Well," Sam began, "you could have demon blood in you. Like me."

"But...," Shane looked mortified and somewhat furious, "how?!"

"There are two ways to get demon blood in your veins," Bobby began, "the way Sam did, by having a demon bleed into you somehow, or..."

"Or what!?" Shane yelled.

"When a child is conceived and one of the parents is possessed. It's rare, but not unheard of."

Shane stood frozen, her hands in fists at her side. She was human. She had to be human. She'd been human her whole life. "You're telling me that one of my parents was possessed by a demon when I was...  conceived!?"

"Most likely!" Bobby snapped.

Her whole life she was normal. Now... she wasn't. She was exactly what her dreams had been telling her she was.

A monster.

"Shane may not be human entirely, but that doesn't mean we're going to shoot her, Bobby." Dean stood directly in front of Shane now, shielding her from Bobby's pistol. "She's still Shane. She hasn't... Um-"

"Woken up yet," Sam finished.

Bobby lowered his gun. "You want to run the risk of being sliced open in your sleep, go ahead. But I'm not going to have that risk around here."

The room erupted into an argument about what would be done. Shane stood silent until she couldn't take anymore. She shoved her way past Dean and stormed out of the house.

Shane paused just outside the house. She heard Dean's voice calling after her and took off in a sprint. She ran into the woods around the house, not looking back. She could still hear Dean calling after her, but she was undeterred. She had to get away.

She had to run.

Back at Bobby's House:

"What the hell was that, Bobby!?" Sam yelled, raking his hands through his hair.

"I am not risking the three of us getting murdered! That thing is not human, and that thing is a risk to all of us!"

"Well, thanks to you, that 'thing,' who has a name, is out loose and we now have to hunt her down and make sure she doesn't hurt herself or anyone else!"

"Well, we're not going to be able to do anything about that now are we, boy!?"

Sam sighed angrily, "ok, so what all do you know about...,"

"Blood Sears?"

"Yes. That. What do you know about-"

"The awakening."

"The what?"

"Quit interrupting me, boy, and I'll tell you," Bobby sighed, "Blood Sears often don't know they are what they are until a certain point in their life when they 'awaken.' Powers start developing, the craving to kill, and their own personal abilities. If that thing wakes up before we can put it down, we've got major trouble."

"Bobby, that thing has a name! Shane is still a person!"

"You don't make a person out of a demon, do you, Sam? You need to sever your ties to this kid, because there's going to come a day when we need to put her down!"
