Eddie's POV:
*beep, beep, beep*
My knee bounced anxiously as I sat in Lia's hospital room. It's been a day, and she still hasn't woken up.
Everyone insisted I go home to sleep in my own bed, but I couldn't leave her alone. Christopher could stay at my Tía's house, so I didn't have to worry about him.
Everyone stayed for a few hours during the day, but Buck and Chim stayed with me longer. We'd sit in her room in silence, just waiting for her to wake up.
Once 11 hit, Buck and Chim both left, but not without trying to get me to go home. Even if I did go home, I wouldn't be able to sleep. I moved my chair to the edge of Lia's bed and took her hand.
"You got to wake up, Lia. Please. Your family's waiting for you."
I rest my head on the wall and stare at the ceiling. I don't even realize how tired I was until my eyes fluttered shut.
*
When I woke up, my head was resting on Lia's empty bed. I panic slightly and rush out of the room. I see her walking with a nurse in the hallway, and I calm myself down a little.
"Hey, how you feeling? Also, shouldn't you be resting?"
"Breathing's fun, my whole body hurts, but yeah. I'm feeling great. And I had to pee, so that's why I'm up."
I laugh at her sarcasm, and help her get back into her bed. As she settles down, she asks me something.
"Buck told you, didn't he."
I didn't know how to respond, so I stupidly try to lie.
"Told me what?"
"Quit acting dumb, Eddie. About my parents, and them being abusive."
I pause before replying.
"Yeah, he did."
I sit at the edge of her bed and look at her.
"Why didn't you tell me though? Did you not trust me?"
"I was gonna tell you, I swear. And I do trust you. You saved my life like twice now for gods sake."
I just laugh at what she said.
"But I wasn't ready to tell you. I wasn't sure how you were gonna react, or how I was. It had been a while since I brought it up, and I didn't know if it would affect me."
"I get it. You don't have to talk about it yet."
I place my hand on top of hers.
"But talk about it eventually."
She looks at me and nods.
*knock, knock.
"Hi, sorry to interrupt." A doctor's head pops up in the doorway. "I need to discuss Lia's diagnosis and plan for the future."
I go to leave, but Lia grabs my wrist.
"Can you stay, please?"
