It was towards the end of shift, and we had just finished eating dinner.
"God, kill me before tomorrow." I say.
"Uhm. Context, maybe?" Buck asks as he picks up the utensils.
I set the plates down in the sink and head back to the table.
"Tomorrow's Halloween, and I hate Halloween."
"Do I want to know why?"
I sit down in one of the seats and run my face with my hand.
"Because something bad always happens to me, I swear. And this was way after I was depressed or suicidal, okay?"
"I wasn't doubting you, but ok-"
"Just, ugh!"
I slam my hands down, but immediately regret it. Everyone's heads turn in our direction and look at me concerned.
"What's going on with her?" Eddie asks as him and Chim walk over.
"Lia, over here, thinks that tomorrow will be her cursed day." Buck explains.
"I just don't want to constantly think about it. I won't be able to focus then. I could hurt somebody!" I groan as I stick my head in my hands.
"Well, curses aren't real." Eddie says and pats my back.
I lift my head back up and give Eddie a look. He just realizes what he said.
"Oh, curses are real alright, Eddie." Chim says with his arms crossed.
"Hmm, never believed in them." Eddie says back.
Me and Buck look at each other as Chim and Eddie have a stare down. They're interrupted as the bell goes off and everyone goes running down the steps.
"This conversation isn't over, Diaz!" Chim yells.
"I warned you." I say.
"Shut up."

"Me and Stavros were digging a plot, when we got pulled in. It was like the grave was digging itself."
I flash the light in his eyes, and place the oxygen mask back on.
"How long ago did this happen?" I ask him.
"Half an hour, maybe?"
I run back to the rest of the group, stuffing everything back into my med bag while doing so.
"Cap, we need to get him out. He's been breathing dirt for at least a half an hour. Maybe longer." I say.
"I understand, but this whole area can collapse at any moment. We don't want anyone else having to be buried with him down there."
"Yeah, sorry. Just trying to focus on something else." I whispered the last part.
"Hey." Eddie nudges my shoulder. "Just relax, okay? We're gonna get to him."
