Dear Samuel,
Tomorrow the train leaves for the city. Everything is packed and ready to go, but I need to leave early to avoid anyone trying to stop me. It'll be hard enough to sneak away from the house with Papa waking up as early as he does, but if I don't get the early train, they'll be able to stop me. I can't let them do that.
It's been two days since we met at the pond and you haven't given me your answer yet.
By tomorrow morning it'll be too late.
If you're coming with me, meet me at the pond at first light. If you're not there, then I know where we stand, but I hope you will be. This very well might be the last letter I ever write and if it is, then I just have one thing that I want to say to you.
Thank you for putting that letter in the stream. Without it, I never would have opened my eyes to the life I could lead. You opened my eyes to a whole slew of possibilities that I never expected. I wouldn't be getting on the train tomorrow, I wouldn't be disobeying my father, and I wouldn't be leaving my home just to take an exam.
You've changed my life, Samuel Owens. I owe you everything.
Thank you for everything.
Yours,
Eli
