Everything was peacefully silent as Kinger walked down the hall. The only sound that could be heard was the light tapping of his footsteps against the ground. The sound penetrated the silence and rang in his ears, but he did not mind it.
He liked the little moments like this when he would have some time alone to think. But that was not the full reason he was heading this particular direction alone right now. There was a reason, one specific thought that kept tapping at his mind. One he thought about often.
On the way to his room, he passed by the pictures of the other people living in the digital circus. He also passed by the pictures of those who had lived there before but were now gone. He glanced at each of the pictures that were X'ed out, memories rushing through his mind.
The memories felt so distant, like they happened centuries ago. He could barely even remember much about them anymore. The only memories he still held on to felt like vague thoughts rather than an actual experience he had in the past.
Before he got to his room, he stopped at the door that was three rooms away from his. He stared at the picture, memories flooding his mind. This was different than the other pictures. The memories connected with this one were much more vivid. He kept these memories closer to his heart than anything else.
This was what he came this way for. To look at this picture. He did this often, he could not help himself. Looking at it made all those memories even more vivid. It made him feel like she was still with him.
Despite the red X drawn over it, the picture still perfectly showed the beautiful face of a Queen chess piece. Still just as beautiful as ever. He thought.
Looking at her picture filled him with immense sorrow but also a strong feeling of love. The feeling was so strong, it felt like his heart was being ripped out of his chest. But he could not tear his eyes away.
"Queenie," He said with a sad sigh. "I miss you."
Subconsciously or not, he often stopped at her picture to tell her about his day and the adventures he went on. He knew she could not hear him. It was just a picture. But talking to it was therapeutic to him. It made him feel like she was still there with him.
But today he did not talk about his day or the adventure he went on. He did not say anything. He simply gazed at her picture as the memories came flooding back.
He thought about the adventures they went on, the time they spent together, and the day they arrived in the digital circus. His memories carried him on a trip down memory lane and he could not stop himself from reminiscing as he was brought back to the day it all started.
