(Sunny POV)

I walked down the road from school with Orlu, and we actually had a lot in common. We chatted about how Miss Tate's actions were way, way out of line, and he said he liked reading books for fun. And he also noticed the weaver birds in the nest beside our school. I looked up the paved road. "I live just a little that way," Orlu said to me. I looked where he was looking, seeing a house similar in appearance to mine. It was white with a little modest fence around it. Something then caught my eye: the house next to Orlu's. It was a small mud hut with very damaged walls.

"Do you know the lady who lives there?" I asked him. I had only seen her once before and it was many years ago. "That's Nimm's house. She lives there with her daughter," Orlu said. I looked at him in slight disbelief, "Daughter?" I'd assume that the woman lived alone. By this time we were past the hut and almost to Orlu's house when, "Hey! Orlu! Who's The Onyocha*?" A loud voice shouted from behind them. I whirled around. "Don't Call Me That," I said angrily. "I Hate when people call me that. Do I Look Like A European? You Don't Even Know Me!"

The person who had yelled was a small girl. She had dark brown skin, a little elfish, and a loud smile. "Seen you around," she said, sauntering over to me and Orlu who looked very annoyed. She was wearing a red, yellow, and blue dress, and no shoes. "Who are you?" I asked her. "Who are you?" She retorted. "Someone run you over?"

Orlu sighed loudly next to me, I think he rolled his eyes. "Sunny, this is-"

Before he could introduce this strange girl, he was interrupted by, "OI! Chichi! What're you screamin' 'bout?!" Another loud voice shouted from across the street, making me jump. The three of us look over and Orlu mutters to himself. It was another girl walking across the street. She had curly brown hair that swept over her shoulder, the other side of it buzzed. She had three piercings in her left ear and she had tan skin. She had on a green tank top and darker green shorts with gold colored sandals. She looked at me.....then at Orlu...then at..Chichi..? "Who's this, Orlu?" She spoke with a laid-back voice that was slightly deep, but it was also light and high. It was weird. "I am Sunny Nwazue. Who are you?" I asked, a little annoyed. The girl smirked. "I am Kainene Agbara. You can call me Kai." Kai grinned. "Nice to meetcha, Sunny."

I narrowed my eyes at Kai and Chichi. "How come I've never seen you two at school? You look around our age, even if you are kinda......small." Kai shrugged. "I just don't go, cuz it's boring." "I've never needed your stupid school." Chichi said. She exchanged a look with Orlu. "And I'll never tell you my age. I could be older or younger than you. You'll never know, even if you are half-ghost and half-human." Kai then gave me a small, slightly confused, smile. "You.....Even when you speak Igbo you don't quite sound Igbo..."

I gritted my teeth. "That's my accent. I'm American. I spent most of my life there. I can't help the way I speak."

"Woah, didn't mean 'ta hit a sore spot. I'm so sorry.." Kai grinned her hands up in mock defense. She and Chichi laughed.

I wanted to slap them. I almost did but Orlu stepped between me and Kai and Chichi. "Well," He said quickly, "this isn't going very well."

I sighed and leaned around Orlu. I had a question for Chichi. "You live there?" I gestured towards the mud hut. She looked at me. "Yeah. My mother and I don't need much." I made a confused face. "Why?" Orlu stepped back, his face looking perplexed.

"I'll never tell you," Chichi said, a smooth and sly grin on her face. "Let's just say......there's more to life than having big houses.." Kai finished, laughing a little. Chichi did too before turning away. "Have a nice evening, Orlu, Kai. See you around, Sunny."

"Yeah, if I don't step on you first," I said back to her.

"Yeah, and if I can even see you coming, ghost girl," Chichi shot back over her shoulder. Kai laughed at this and Orlu shook his head. She gave me a handshake and then a hug to Orlu before swaggering across the street and into her small house.

Orlu shook his head again with a sigh.

*These heights are what I've been able to map out from reading the book and mapping them out. This makes most of the heights completely fanon. The only one that has a canon height is Orlu. I tried my best to use the Akata Witch Wiki to the best of my abilities. With all this said, I hope you enjoyed this chapter and I hope to see you on the next one!*
