•LUNA•
There was so much happening during the past two days we've been in the safe house, despite all the tension that comes with the plans made for my safe travels back home, I was able to guarantee one thing;
I was finally going home.
Alec and I never talked about what happened in the bathroom the other day. We made a silent promise not to, but ever since then, he's been giving me nothing but a cold shoulder lately.
As if that doesn't make matters worse, his coworker Blair was also acting the same way towards me, and for what reason?
I have no idea.
The only time Alec would talk to me was during the times when we had to go all over the plans again so they could make sure I knew what and what not to do when we finally leave this place.
Today, was that day.
I helped Blair carry some duffel bags out to the car waiting outside. We dumped them in the truck and after she closed it, she turned to me and gave me a tight-lipped smile.
It was the first time she smiled at me, but it was nothing like the warm friendly smile people would show others out of kindness or whatever.
I'm not sure whether she has a problem with me or something, but if she does then she has no problem displaying it.
But I couldn't care less; I was finally going home today so I won't be running into her anytime soon.
Alec included...
My heart ached at the thought of never seeing him again. Our moments together will just be that; moments.
Speaking of the devil, Alec joined us outside along with his other coworker Martin. They both had backpacks on and were dressed in all black.
I swallowed the tight knot forming in my throat before turning around to fully face them. He didn't look at me, not even once, and just turned his attention towards Blair instead.
It hurts, but I held it in and kept my expression clear to not give anything away.
"You know the drill." He said to Blair while throwing her a set of keys. "Stick to the route and get her past the border. Her father's people will be ready on the other side and they will take care of the rest."
His eyes suddenly met mine and I clenched my fists.
"Our job is to get her through the border, safe and sound. That's all it takes." He continued before glancing towards Martin as well.
"Roger that." Blair pipes up, opens the door, and looks at me, waiting for me to get in.
I stared at Alec till he finally turned and met my eyes. His face remained expressionless and tears pricked the back of my eyes.
"I guess this is goodbye then?" I asked him, my voice betraying me with a tremble.
He took two steps closer to me and suddenly wrapped his arms around me, stealing my breath away.
"I'll see you on the other side." He whispered in my ear and I closed my eyes before embracing him back.
The first teardrop managed to slip away from my eyes and slide down my cheek.
"Let's move!" Blair yelled from inside the car and Alec and I pulled away.
I couldn't bear to look at him one more time, fearing that an emotional breakdown was about to break out. I turned around and got inside the car and closed the door.
I stared straight ahead and Blair started the car. Alec stood outside my window and he tapped the roof two times and that's when Blair started driving away.
I glanced at the side view mirror and saw him standing there, staring after the car as we drove away.
I don't know what lies ahead of us but the possibility of not seeing him on the other side, breaks my heart to pieces and that's when the rest of the tears followed.
OoO
Blair and I made it to the Mexican border. We followed the rest of the cars moving ahead of us, border security guards were moving around the vehicles holding long devices to scan under the cars.
One started heading our way and my heart skipped a terrifying beat and I clutched the side of my seatbelt.
"Quickly put this on and keep your head down," Blair said while throwing a cap on my lap.
I quickly did as I was told and braced myself in my seat. The security guard slowly walked past our vehicle, his eyes pinned on us while he used his scanner thing to move under the car.
I faced the front and lowered my head, wishing he would stop staring because my heart was pounding so fast in my chest, that I almost felt nauseous.
"Keep moving!" He yelled from outside while tapping the side of the car.
I jumped in surprise and Blair resumed driving till we finally stopped near the main gates.
I watched Blair pull out two passports from the glovebox and with a huge smile, she passed them over to the guy standing inside the small guardhouse by the main gates.
"Back from vacation?" The guard asked while looking back and forth between Blair and me.
"Something like that. My little sister and I just realized the Mexico air was not it for us, she fell sick ever since we got here. So, I guess we're headed back home."
The guard stared at Blair and then at the passports again. He then tilted his head to the side and looked straight at me.
"Take off the hat please." He called out to me.
My heart dropped as I slowly pulled the hat off my head, hair tendrils falling around my face as I slowly looked up and saw him.
His eyes slightly widened and then he stared at Blair.
"I will need the both of you to step out of the vehicle right now." The warning in his tone was enough to make my hands shake as I slowly reached for my seatbelt.
Blair turned towards me on her side, doing the same. Her eyes flickered up to meet mine and she leaned a little closer towards me.
"As soon as we get out, get into the driver's seat and get the hell out of here. I will hold them back for as long as I can. Do you understand me?"
I quickly nodded my head, my eyes widened with fear.
"Get out. Now!" The man yelled from outside and this time, he was holding a gun in both hands.
Blair and I slowly stepped out of the vehicle with our hands raised in the air. I walked over to her side and we both stood before the border security guard.
With one hand holding the gun pointed straight at us, he used his other hand to pat us down for any weapons starting with Blair.
Blair shot me a look and nodded once. The minute she pounced on the guy, wrestling the gun away from his hand, I immediately jumped back inside the car and stepped on the gas.
The car immediately zoomed off from the spot and broke through the parking barrier. I clutched the wheel tightly and drove off.
A scream escaped from my throat as gunshots erupted behind me, shattering the glass on the car and I barely had time to duck my head.
I didn't stop. I didn't look back. I just kept driving.
Freedom and safety were just right in front of me and I was going after it on my own, leaving behind the people who had risked their lives to get me this far.
