No one can remember how it started..I was 6 years old at the time and I was in the backseat of the car. We were parked at a gas station getting snacks and my father put on some good old country music. "This is one of my favorite kinda songs Kara" He said in a country accent. We were listening to the music until my mom opened the car door. It was like the second she heard the music. Her head exploded. It was so weird though because my dad didn't even cry, I did though I was in tears and utter horror as my mother's own blood splatter on me after the explosion watching her eyes roll onto the floor and seeing her brains flung everywhere. I was terrified and I didn't know why my dad wasn't also sad. "Papa, why aren't you sad.." I said in a teary shaken voice, he turned around and began to tell me the history of music which I never knew about. "Oh Kara, no one knows when it started but we know there is no cure to this deadly disease. Everyone is born with this permanent disease where life chooses which genre of music you can never listen to but you never know what it is so it makes listening to

music difficult…I guess your mother couldn't listen to country music." He said in a sad but serious voice. "But Papa wouldn't we just stop listening to music" I said wiping the tears from my eyes "that's the thing little dove, If you don't listen to music for more than an hour then…you die" He said this and it shook me to my bone knowing that just music could kill me most people would just listen to the same music but eventually they won't be able to anymore because who knows what all is in this disease….

March 8th 2010…
I am 16 now and in highschool I have a classic style and long red silky hair, I have emerald green eyes and I do gymnastics so I'm super flexible. I've been doing gymnastics since I was 8. I have many friends but they are dropping like flies by the second. I miss them. My top 3 friends are Jenna, Lucy, and Rina. We have all been friends since 3rd

grade. Rina is a light brown color with long blonde basically white hair, she does cheerleading and is
pretty fashionable, she also has pretty green eyes. Lucy has medium length Black hair and is pale, she has brown eyes and does soccer so she's a pretty fast runner. Jenna is a light tan color with shoulder length brown hair and bright crystal blue eyes. She does basketball and can jump pretty high and is the best player on her team. I always wanted to be a scientist and it got me thinking "What if I could try to find a cure to this disease that could stop all of this? '' I said aloud to Jenna as we were mixing condiments in the small science lab I have in my basement. "Kara, you know that's impossible, people have tried before and it clearly hasn't worked." Jenna said she had more of an understanding voice it was almost scary. We had a speaker on and were listening to some country music because we were both safe and we enjoyed each song on it. I always thought I could cure this disease or at least try. I mean this sucks having to live like this every day. I had my own lab coat and
4
safety goggles. My dad really supports my dreams even though we are on a tight budget. "What if me, you, Rina, and Lucy tried to find a cure together? I mean there has to be something!" I said with a bit of hope and encouragement in my voice "Give it up Kara even if we spend months or years trying I can almost guarantee we won't get anywhere" Jenna said in an annoyed voice. "Think about it though, if we use one of our DNA and subtracted the disease from it we would be able to capsle it and study on it an-" She cut me off "Kara…You know what if we all try this will you PLEASE let it go if it fails?" She said with an annoyed sigh. "Yeah! I promise!" I said in an excited tone I had all the equipment for it and was excited to try it out. We called Rina and Lucy thankfully today was the last day of school and we were on summer break so we had all summer to try this out. They arrived an hour later and we were all into science. That's why we got along so well. So they also had on their lab coats and safety goggles, we explained my plan to Rina and Lucy and Rina was in on it but Lucy was our odd one out she was
5
scared of a lot of things and stayed in a little bubble so she was scared but still agreed so the plan was on. Right before we were about to start Rina said "Why don't we invite Sarah?" I didn't like Sarah. She bullied me for almost my whole life but I said yes because we needed more people anyways. Once she arrived we all set a 30 minute timer because we weren't in the mood to listen to music. We were in the middle of marking off, sketching, and sorting out the plan when the timer went off. I went over to the radio and switched the channel to 98.1 when the music started playing. I turned around just in time to see Sarah grab her head before it completely exploded. Blood sprayed everywhere, her eyes slowly rolled across the floor and her nerves and brains were everywhere. We all obviously screamed and Rina cried but after 2 hours we calmed down and I got an idea. "Hey, maybe we could use her blood as the DNA we test I mean it's already here and it is the first step" Everyone agreed and we took some blood and put it into a test tube after that we put it in the test tube holder and went upstairs to
6
go to bed for the night so we would be able to be more focused on the experiment. Even though it might seem like I sound carless I'm really not. Otherwise I wouldn't be trying to find out this cure. After the long cold night went by we all got up ate some food and went back down to the basement to continue the experiment we obviously put on our music and got started I used some chemicals to make the disease separate from the blood then we put it on a glass slide and clipped it onto the base of our microscope. "This is too easy, something isn't right" Rina said concerningly which made the rest of us worry because Rina was one of our more calm and outgoing people who never would worry, so we paused for a bit. After a while we got back to it and continued. I looked at it through the microscope and it looked really…weird? Like nothing I've ever seen before there were these spots and lines in it which seemed to move. The color was a purple gray color and it just didn't look right at all. I let the others see how it looked and we were all confused until we hit a bump in our plan. What are we going to
7
experiment on? We could do animals but then if we did get a cure it wouldn't work on humans, we were all thinking until our radio died…Uh oh..that's not good. We all ran around the house trying to find batteries before it was too late. My father also helped us. He was smart and always had headphones. After 30 minutes we found the batteries and ran downstairs to exchange the radios batteries. It took 10 minutes but the radio was back up and going again. We continued on with our experiments. "We could try to find people to test on" Jenna suggested. "That's not a bad idea but who would ever volunteer to be tested on?" I questioned "I mean we could put up some fliers and whoever wants to, can" Jenna said in a calm voice, After a bit of thought we all decided to go for it, I mean anything helps right now. We designed and signed the papers we needed at least 6 people 3 girls 3 guys after a while of making them and putting warning labels with them we all went outside and started hanging them up we brought some headphones with us just in case we needed them. As we was hanging up the
8
posters we noticed another poster on a tree nearby so we decided to go and read it just incase it's important, "Recent Kidnapper on the loose,
Name: Xavier
Age: 19
Everything else is unidentified please be aware of this man" I read aloud. "This doesn't sound good" said Lucy in a fearful voice, "it'll be okay we just need to keep an eye out" Rina said and we all agreed. We continued hanging up the posters in many different areas around town, after a while we began to head back to my place. "Hey, you guys can go on without me. I think I left something over near the oakwood tree a while back." Said Lucy "Okay, make sure to wear your headphones and be quick it's getting pretty late." Jenna said in a caring tone. After that Lucy went off to go retrieve her item and we continued walking home. Hours passed and we still haven't heard Lucy knock on the door, we tried to contact her but got nothing. "Why hasn't Lucy come back yet?" Rina said worryingly "I'm not sure, maybe she stopped by her house to check on her
9
parents or something." I said, trying to stay calm. After around midnight we got a knock on the door and went upstairs to go answer it. When we opened the door the first thing we saw was red and blue flashing lights and two police officers standing in front of us. "May we help you" Jenna said in a confused tone while standing in front of me and Rina. "Ma'am are you Kara?" One of the officers asked. "No, I'm Kara. What's going on?" I said "Well sense Lucy was the last person with you, we need to ask you ladies some questions" The officer said in a stern voice. "Oh okay." I said. We invited them inside and all went to my living room to sit down and talk. "So what were you girls doing with Lucy the last time you saw her?" Officer #1 asked. "Well we just got done hanging up some posters and we were beginning to walk home when Lucy told us to go on without her because she left one of her belongings near an oakwood tree." Rina said. "Okay, we just wanted to know the story and let you kids know that the kidnapper got Lucy. She's currently missing and their is a rescue party out for
10
her but if we don't make a move quickly…then it might be too late." Officer #1 said sadly. Me, Rina, and Jenna were holding back tears. We couldn't believe that Lucy was missing. We all got together and decided to put aside our experiment for now and to join the search party. Even though I've waited years to start this experiment my friend is much more important than it will ever be. We got together some materials and ran off to go find her, since Xavier was in town it would be easier to find her but we are on a small time limit. We started searching as soon as possible, going to every area of town and basically all the houses there were to go to. We looked and looked and called out for her but so far we had no luck…"There has to be some way! We can't lose her." said Rina, Rina and Lucy have been friends basically forever so this whole thing was taking a toll on Rina. We all looked at each other before looking at the time, we were too late…Next thing we knew we heard an explosion right next to us and we all started bursting into tears. Lucy was
