An Uncanny Dream

It has been almost a decade when a little girl...umm not a little tho but a teenager, died due to her uncanny dreams.

A girl, named Veronica lived in my neighbourhood. Her parents bought a house in rent where she lived with them. Three of them were amiable. Her father had a transferable job so every two years they used to shift from one place to another. Veronica's mother was an beautician and worked twenty four hours in a beauty parlour so none of her parents had time to spent with her. Veronica was a fifteen year old girl like me. Within a months she became my best friend and she used to come to my house and gossip,play and enjoy with me all day long. Even she became my mom's favourite child. In some occasions we and our parents used to go for a trip. It was going all right. Almost a year had passed by. Veronica and I used to study in same school and every day we went to school together. That time we were in tenth standard so it was very important to have seventy five percent attendance. So we never used to skip or bunk our classes. One day I had hyperpyrexia so unfortunately i had to skip school that day, it was an important day as our teacher would give us some notes,i was anxious about it but Veronica calmed me down and told she would go to school and take all the notes.I was a bit relaxed. There was a short cut way beside our lane through which no one used to walk as it was a superstition that if any person walks through that way then he or she may be a victim of an uncanny dream which could even be very choking. Though i never believed it but my parents and the whole locality believed that because years before a strange thing happened to our neighbourhood woman who dreamed something weird as she went through that path but so far i know it was not the cause as i never believed in superstition. Her death was mysterious no one knew how she dead just her deadbody was found near their apartment,people claimed that she had suicided by falling from the terrace. Still now the case is not solved. After the school hours, Veronica returned her home and she handed over the bunch of notes to me. Then our summer vacation started after which our exams would be going to commence. We used study together in her house.Like that one evening when i went to study with her i felt that Veronica was looking a bit disturbed. I knew that she was hiding something. I was in eager to ask her about what matter she was worried, all i thought was about exams but no her face was not like before her face was a bit pale. Then i asked....she replied ' nothing' then after a few seconds of silence she told me the day when i didn't go to school,she took the short cut way through which she went to school because she became late that day. After that every single day she used to dream about some strange things which was really very disturbing to her. Further she explained every thing in detail that it was a strange figured guy who used to stalk her in her dreams and repeatedly said her to go him.When Veronica said all these words to me, i thought that same thing happened with that neighbourhood woman but then also i didn't believe. Veronica was trembling in fear and i could not tolerate that. Veronica said me not to say anything about that matter to her parents or else they would be worried.Just before the commencement of our exams her health condition deteriorated, her parents were a bit worried and asked me if i knew anything but as i promised Veronica i did not say them anything. One evening i went her house to check her whether she was fine or not, I found that she was hiding herself behind the wardrobe and behaving very strange. She was murmuring something weird which i could not understand but all i could hear that she was telling someone to move away from her .I was feeling very pitty for her and cried a lot. I immediately informed about that situation to her parents. Anyhow her mother put her on the bed and was trying to make her asleep but she was repeatedly saying only one thing 'I will never sleep...i will never sleep!!!'. Her parents could not make out her behaviour and asked me again and this time i informed them everything,even they could not believe . Her parents informed a psychiatrist and she came to her house to examine her .Veronica's health totally deteriorated, her eyes were protruding out and dark circles below her eyes as if she was a ghost. She had not slept since a week. None can make out what was happening not even the psychiatrist. It was my mistake that i never informed Veronica about that incident and about the short cut path then i did not have to face these days.Things started to get worse everything went out of our hand,every one was frightened by
her weirdness. For all these reasons her parents tied her hands and legs to the edges of the bed. It was very excruciating. And finally the day came when when everything turned uncanny. Veronica was under her mother's surveillance, her mother used to stay at home and take care of her.Her emotional breakdown could not be seen by us. One afternoon i got a bawl for her house even my mom and dad heard it too our heard beat increased. We immediately ran to her house and found Veronica's mom on the floor she was severely injured and she claimed that it was Veronica who pushed her.We could not find Veronica on the bed. Her mother murmured and gestured that she ran towards the terrace so we didn't wait anymore and went to the terrace. But found no one was there so we immediately peeked through terrace and..........it all ended!!!! My heart wrenched for a while i could not believe that i lost my best friend......gust of wind and silence spread all over. A deadly seen we could see infront of our eyes. Blood splashed everywhere,her body was taken for post-mortem. Everyone could only get the flashback of the woman who died that same way. It was almost believed the short cut lane is really a haunted and deadly spot but the thoughts were immidiatly changed when after examining her body it was found that there were fingerprints on the back of her attire which clearly depicts that someone has pushed her from the terrace. Inspectors charged her parents and questioned them if there was any misunderstanding.CCTV footages of the terrace were checked but there was no clue . No one was present at that moment expect Veronica. The case became very critical. Uncertain death of Veronica has remained mysterious till now. Still now people can't believe that superstition. No one knows what is the truth whether it is the strange man whom she used to see in her dreams or any other person who pushed her. This deadly incident made me believe all those superstition. Still now no one dares to take that short cut lane. No one knows why that lane is cursed what had happened there before . Maybe the strange man had been killed there or anything else no one knows. The case remains UNCANNY to everyone!!
