Chapter I

It was morning, the sun barely rose up. I walked to the park, not expecting someone else to be there so early, let alone someone I didn't know. I contemplated if I should bring them company or not. I took a moment before thinking I should, so I did.
“Uh, hey...” She looked over, looking up at me walking toward her. “I'm sorry if I'm bothering you, I just seen you and thought you might need some company. I can go, if you want...” “No, no, you're fine.” Her soft voice sent my skin to have goosebumps. “I'm here just to get away from all the commotion. If you want to sit, you can...” She spoke quietly, but I could hear her just fine. I sat down after she patted the spot next to her, and she looked as beautiful as ever.
I couldn't help but stare. “So, what's got you up so early?” She asked as she looked at me. She tilted her head slightly when she noticed I was staring. I shook my head slightly to get my thoughts out of the daze. I cleared my throat and spoke with my slightly raspy voice in return. “Just taking a walk. I tend to do this more often than you must think,” I let out a soft chuckle and she giggled a bit. I could've sworn my cheeks dusted a light pink after she giggled.
“U-um... Your smile is cute...” I complimented, my lips curving a bit in the corners. She smiled softly as she looked at me in return. “Thank you... Your smile is adorable as well.” I grinned for a moment before looking away. “Thank you..”
“I'm Charlotte, by the way.” She looked at me with her beautiful hazel eyes. Ones I could tell that have been taken advantage of. I took a moment before turning my slight frown into a small smile. “Maxwell... It's nice to meet you, Charlotte.” I held out a large hand for her small one to shake. We shook hands and officially met each other.
That morning, we exchanged numbers, then we did everything together. We talked, went to grab hot chocolate, we even went to an amusement park. I was happy I wasn't alone anymore. I knew she was a kind and beautiful soul.
I hated her past. We talked about each other's pasts, and I learned that she's been used for her kindness, her body, and just taken as a complete joke. I learned her parents were complete assholes and were rude and ignorant towards her.
She had a brother and a sister, but they were 4 and 5 years younger than her. She was 19, and they were 15 and 14. She's the same age I am. We walked for a good while before it finally got dark. “Okay, well it was really fun meeting you... I gotta head home now.” Charlotte said as she smiled softly at me. I smiled back and offered to walk her home. It took her a moment before she agreed and we started our way there.
“You should come over when you have the chance.” Charlotte suggested.
I raised an eyebrow before my eyes lit up. “Of course, I don't mind coming over one day.” She looked down before sighing a great sigh. “You know, lately, I haven't been in my right mind. But then you came along this morning, and everything made me so much happier and brighter... How do you do it?” I looked at her, slightly confused. “What do you mean?” I questioned. She looked up at me, 'please' written all over her face.
“Like... How can you be so comfortable to be around, just so joyful and lovely and kind... Just out of nowhere? To a complete stranger?” She began explaining. “Like, you wake up most mornings to go on walks and you've done so many nice things and you help people out without them asking and you expect nothing in return. You actually care for people and the entire world seems to be in your hands, and even if someone is rude to you, you seem to ignore it like it never even happened... You're not weirded out easily by anything and you're amazingly great at pointing out the wonders of the world rather than worrying and spending all your time on what others say... Just... How do you do it so flawlessly?” Her expressions as she explained seemed genuinely hurt. My heart sank to the bottom of my stomach when she looked at me with those eyes...
