ANNABETH

"Annabeth!" Travis grabbed me by the arms. "Tempest's back."
It wasn't a coincidence that she just happened to be back on the winter solstice at dawn. Hardly anyone was awake, except Travis on his run, the Apollo kids, and me because I had been too busy researching the Roman Empire (which gave me the world's worst headache). I thanked Travis, and ran to join Tempest at Half-Blood Hill.
She was just standing over her grave, looking at the wooden cross etched with her name, but when she heard me, she turned around and smiled. "Hey."
I wrapped my arms around her and sighed. "Are you okay?"
She pulled away and kissed me gently before nodding. "Always. I didn't find shit, but I got you a souvenir on my way back." From her pocket, she produced a little silver chain with an image of a magnolia tree. "Mississippi isn't all that great, but this reminded me of you."
I smiled and took it. "Why's it remind you of me?"
"Both of you are pretty, and you're a silver girl," she told me. "It's a keychain, so we'll just have to get you driving first. Did you crash my car?"
I stepped away from her. "No. I got back here just fine, in fact." I put the chain in my pocket. "Hey, maybe we can go out driving again today."
Tempest made a face. "Well, I kinda have to-"
"If you lie, I will hang myself."
She curled her lip at me. "Sheesh. Dramatic much?" I stared at her. "Annabeth, teaching you how to drive was..." She put her hands over her mouth, thought deeply, and said, "difficult."
"Difficult." I crossed my arms. "Probably because you have no patience."
"No, honey. I have plenty of patience," Tempest said. "When it comes to learning new things, I'm a very patient person, in fact. But I do worry that if I let you drive my car again, we may be separating for our mental health." She took my hands. "And I mean that in the kindest possible way."
I snatched my hands out of her grip. "No, you're being pedantic, and I'm not a big fan of your attitude." Tempest grumbled and clutched her nose bridge. "I'm a fast learner! I know I can do this."
"I know you can too," Tempest said sincerely, "but there needs to be a line between our relationship and me teaching you how to drive."
I stared at her. She was just making me angry. "When you wanted to learn all about architecture-"
"Here we fucking go," Tempest mumbled.
"-I stayed up with you all night teaching you the ins and outs, did I not?"
Tempest held her hands out desperately. "That's because I was weirdly horny the whole time and just wanted an excuse to be near you!"
"Doesn't matter," I said, ignoring how hot my face felt. "And you can't feel horny."
She put her finger next to her head and grinned. "If you saw some of the freaky shit that goes on up there-"
