Chapter One.

Hi, I'm Ellie. This is my amazing story of survival. You probably won't even believe the story, but it's all true. Everything is different now. Everybody has gone. There is nothing left for us. I didn't believe any of it when I got home from University with my friends. Nobody did. This is our story of survival, sacrifice and fear. This is our story of how we survived the worlds first zombie apocolypse.

THREE YEARS EARLIER

My friend Mason halted the truck as me and my friends arrived at our apartment. It was just how we left it; everything was untouched. I'd been living with my buddies since we left high school. There's six of us; Mason, Janice, Logan, Kasey, Millie and me. We've been living in Moon's Crescent for our entire lives. Nothing bad ever happened here. It was around 10PM, and everybody in the town was asleep. The lights were all off.

"Well, Ellie, we're here," Mason said.

"God. It looks strange. I think we should just get inside, you know? It's freezing." I held my arms as I shivered. Something just felt odd about the town now we were back. Let me just quickly explain who my friends are. Mason Redwood is forever gaming, so he knows one or two things about fighting. Janice Groves is this little fashion diva, if anything is wrong about your outfit she'll tell you. Logan Kelley is this dude who honestly has no personal talent, he just creeps everybody out. Kasey Minefield is this super-cute jock, sporty and a little bit dumb. Millie Shackrell, the laid back nerd, who has a perfect GPA and honestly is the female version of Steven Hawking. Then there's me- Ellie Harthrow, the ugly weirdo who has no personal talents besides being a wimp. Everybody says I'm stunning, but sometimes I wonder if we see the same thing.

Millie stepped out of the van with the keys to the house. "Come on guys, it's cold. I want to go to bed now."

I smiled. "She's right. Let's get inside."

We all pile in through the front door and notice that nothing has been moved. However, the light's didn't work. We had no light source, besides three candles that Logan smuggled from campus.

"Ugh, they'll do for now," Janice groaned. "In the meantime, I think that Mason and I shoud go out for supplies tomorrow."

"Good idea," I agreed. "Let's just get some rest."

                                                                      ************

I woke up nice and early. I could hear Logan already. He was busy trying to figure out how to turn on the coffee machine. I quickly slipped on my favourite sweater and some comfy jeans, slipped on some Vans and left the bedroom.

"Good morning, Ellie," Janice said, ruffling through her bag. "Mason is outside. The fence broke last night, something trying to get in. Maybe a bear or something. Anyway, we're heading out soon. Do you want to come?"

I glanced at the clock. "I'm good. I think Logan will need help turning on the coffee machine. But, can you take the small car? I might need the truck."

"Why?"

"I don't know. I just might."

Janice shrugged. "Whatever. See ya."

I waved her off, and went to help Logan with the coffee. Millie and Kasey ventured outside to the pool, and stayed there for a good half an hour. I finally joined them outside on a sunlounger with Logan with our coffee. The sun was really hot, but we didn't even mind.

"Logan! Hey, come on in!"

Logan shook his head. "Nuh-huh! I'd rather die. Look, I mean, I'd rather watch that bear coming out of the woods."

"AGH!" Kasey and Millie shuffled round to see the forest, and nothing was there.

"Okay, that was mean," I said.

"No, there actually is something coming out of the woods, Ellie. Look."

I looked really closely. At first, I believed his whole bear thing. But as it came closer, we realised it wasn't even a bear. It was a person. They were limping out of the woods. My heart raced. Logan whispered to the girls to come out of the pool. Luckily, they came out. Logan rushed and grabbed his keys.

"What are you-"

I looked and saw that this human wasn't even right. No human walks around with his brain showing. With blood smeared on their clothes. This person wasn't even alive. It was dead, and still walking. I screamed at the girls to get into the truck, as seven more walkers came out of the forests, rushing towards the backyard.

"LOGAN!"

"I'm coming!! Get into the truck for god sake! NOW!"

As we ran, so did the walkers. Logan ran out of the house, and pushed us into the car. He didn't think twice about asking if we were hurt, he just started the engine and drove off. Which was good, because our backyard was swarming with undead people.
