So that's it.
Run, run.
None of them are smart.
Faster, faster.
I have to save them.
You have to, you have to.
I only have them.
I only have them. Only them.
The moment I overheard the conversation between the director and the commander, I knew that it was finally my turn to save them and repay them for what they had given me.
I strained all my strength to catch up with them and tell them that it was an ambush, that for them they were nothing but cannon fodder, but for me they were the whole world. And only I can defend them.
I ran and ran. They left school an hour ago, heading north. How far could they go? How long will it be before I catch up with them? What will I find there? Will it be too late?
At first, my mind was a chaos of thoughts, and over time they began to reduce and become quieter. I focused all my attention on taking the next steps. My lungs were burning, my heart was pounding like crazy.
I probably wouldn't have been able to run for so long if a strong and warm wind hadn't suddenly arisen. He started pushing me forward so that my legs were moving almost on their own. I also accelerated significantly.
I looked around nervously. I looked for traces in the ground, broken twigs, scraps of clothes. But it was probably the wind that showed me the direction.
I stopped and closed my eyes. Not to catch your breath, but to listen to your surroundings. Birds, trees... no, no, not this time... I felt a dull rumbling on my left side.
Jungkook stood in a forest clearing, surrounded by five people. One against five. Each of them looked worse than him. A trickle of blood ran down his temple, but I could see the tireless intensity in his eyes. He was ready to fight until the end and not give up cheaply. If he hadn't been my crush before, I would have fallen in love with him at that moment.
"You have a good eye," I heard a whisper near my ear.
I jumped up in fear, ready to defend myself as bravely as Jungkook.
"Windy!" What an amazing girl. He always shows up when needed. "What are you doing here?"
"I follow and save," she replied simply.
"Can you use the force?" I asked, remembering the story I heard in the car ages ago.
"Yes, because my wind is green"
God... I sighed to myself. Being in love is impossible.
"I'll join here and help Jungkook. We never had the chance to fight together," she smiled tenderly, as if she were talking about taking a porcelain-making class together. "You have to find Martinus. They separated, he is alone now. You'll tell him everything and run away. We will join after we deal with these."
"But... I don't know where to look..." I confessed to this strange girl.
She looked like I was weird. And she jumped into the clearing. Without any word of guidance. Someday I'll deal with her for this. And for the fact that in the madness of the frantic fight she still had time to exchange a passionate kiss with Jungkook.
I started searching. There's no telling how long he'll be alone, and Jungkook and Windy are busy with their group of stalkers and they definitely won't help me anymore.
"Long time no see"
I turned around at the sound of an unfamiliar voice and saw the young blonde guy in front of me who had caught me peeing in the woods. Now he didn't have an ounce of confusion in him.
"What do you want?" I asked calmly.
"Hmmm, you and Windy are messing with our plans a bit. If I catch you, I have all three of them" he laughed a little madly.
"You won't catch her," another voice said.
Out of nowhere, Martinus stood right next to me. He moved me behind him, ready to protect me at all costs. I've never meant so much to anyone. No one was willing to risk their lives for me.
But when the blonde smiled slyly and raised his hand, I knew what I would do. I jumped to protect the one I love. The one who made me happy. To whom I gave an umbrella on a rainy night. With whom I watched H2O in the evenings. Who was the first to know my past and embrace me as I am.
It's good to have something to die for.
