NIKKI THOMAS HAD ONLY EVER ADMIRED TWO ADULTS IN HER LIFE...
The first one, her mother of course. How could she not admire the woman who had to fend for herself after being kicked out of her house after becoming pregnant at seventeen? The woman who decided to open her own nail business even though she never graduated from high school. The woman who had built herself and her business up from the ground up only to lose it to gentrification. The woman who made the executive decision to move across the world and start over in a different country entirely. The woman who from there, built her business up again and kept it from her sheer determination and will power alone.
The only other adult Nikki had ever admired in her life was one she did not grow up with. In fact, up to this point she had only known the woman a little over a year. But even so, her impact was astronomical. Yamaguchi Kumiko, or Yankumi as all her precious students called her, was the only one Nikki felt deserved the title of 'teacher.' She was honest, kind, and always had her students back when they needed them, even when they refused her help. She was strong, both physically and mentally, and would never give up on her students, no matter what.
Nikki wanted nothing more than to be like the two strongest women she's ever known, but unfortunately she had almost nothing to show for it. She had spent most of her highschool years constantly getting into trouble and worrying her mother, she hadn't graduated like she promised her teacher, and now at nineteen she's barely keeping her mother's nail salon running. The girls life was nowhere near where she wanted it to be but tried her best to keep going despite that. She wanted to be resilient like her mother and fight for her future like Yankumi always told her to. No matter what, she was going to keep her mother's shop open and nothing would get in her way.
Not even a band of chaotic highschoolers hell bent on including her in their misadventures...

authors note.... i literally only chose title i did because i like the song lol. and the vibes remind me of nikki. i'm excited to write her story and i hope everyone enjoys.
also, who is y'all's favorite character in the series? it can be from any season but my top three are shin, hayato, and ryu. special mention for uchi and yamato tho. so rlly my top five in no particular order. ( edit: just changed this after rewatching the series lol )
